I have a friend opening a massage business and is having trouble with a good name.

So far first choice seems to be TSR Massage. (stands for Therapeutic Stress Relief).

Like it,hate it?

Any suggestions?

If you have to explain a name - it's not a good name.

        Stress Free Massage

        Stress Therapy Massage

If you use initials they should be easy to remember/understand - and TSR doesn't make it for me.

I'm with Kay on this one.

Although TSR Massage isn't so bad per se, if the TSR is supposed to represent Therapeutic Stress Relief, not many people know that so it isn't effective.

As a matter of fact, when I first read the name in question, the closest acronym to TSR that I know of is TSA and TSA Massage reminded me of a TSA pat down search gone too far.

Of course this is my mind we're talking about here.

Thank you Kay for several reasons.

First off, for taking this seriously.

I am really trying to help a friend.

Second. I agree with having to explain the initials.

Being the geek that I am, when I saw TSR my first thought was Dungeons and Dragons.

    Sad.

So, if anyone has any serious thoughts,I will pass them on.

(I admit I did chuckle at a couple of responses).

I miss TSR. Wizards of the Coast is just... Disney-ish.

      Anyway I liked "Wax-On, Wax-Off"

But yeah, I think for a massage business, naming it by the image promoted
is probably best. I go to a place called "Professional Sports Massage" and
the environment is exactly what you would expect.

Therapeutic Stress Relief Center sounds good. Don't use the initials, use the name. It describes what he business delivers.

Well I wonder if you just want a name for the business or a .com domain name too as if you want both you should try to get the same.

My suggestion would be Mistress Of Massage and the .com is available unless someone else grabs it now but even if that does happen I have at least given you an idea and I can always come up with another one for you.

Well, Mr Allen,it has been ages.
Mr Allen helped me with my web/sales page for the first product I created years and years ago.

If it was one person Mistress of Massage might be good. I might file that away.
And yes, they do want the same dot com as the name of the business. That is why I was contacted,to help with the internet work.

Magic Massage, Soothing Massage, (The person's name) Massage,
Is it a clinic or mobile? If mobile, it could be the person's name and Mobile Massage.

Without more info that is all I can think of and I have regular massages from several people. Tell us the name of the place and the person and maybe we can suggest more names.

      Funny,
Magic Massage was my first suggestion.
Magic Massage, make your stress disappear.

after being passed around it was thought too many people would take it to the bad place.

I always thought massage was well suited to a subscription model. Get people to commit to a monthly (or weekly, or quarterly, etc) appointment in exchange for a break in price. Of course, that is a small benefit... the main benefit is health, well being and happiness without the hassle of recommitting every month.

Take the decision out of the decision, and I think people will see the appeal.

I realize that doesn't help you with the name game, but hopefully it is a marketing angle worth exploring

Maybe work in the term Spa, which would allow your friend to offer others services as well. I would also suggest not using a family name or a location name if they want to to expand to other locations and/or sell in the future. Best of luck.

    Personally, I'd go for simple.

    Therapeutic Massage

... would be my choice. It differentiates it from massage parlors that are fronts for ... er, ladies who provide special massages, although I love the creativity many have shown. I like Jack's idea of working in the word "spa" if it's appropriate.

    Therapeutic Massage and Spa

I'd stay away from the cutesy and clever names for this kind of business. Therapeutic Massage (and Spa) just sounds more professional to me.

    Wife: Where have you been?
    Hubby: Soft Touch Massage
Wife: Wham! (frying pan to the head)

    Hubby: Therapeutic Massage and Spa
Wife: Wham! (Hey, you can't win them all.)

Before selecting a name, I'd want to know who the target market is?

    Male? Female?
    Vacation travelers?
    Upscale/middle class?
    Medical referals?

I'd suggest to come up with a marketing plan, then a name.

That's a good one, depending on the business. Not all massages are by hand. When I hurt my back my therapy consisted of three different kinds of massages, and only one involved human hands touching me. One was ultrasound and the other was a matt that delivered very mild electrical shocks. If Kim's friend only offers hand massages, that's a great name. If they offer other kinds of massages, maybe tweaking your idea to...

        Healing Arts Therapeutic Massage

...would be an alternate name that doesn't box them into one type of massage.

Kim's friend might prefer at clientele that is at least semi-educated.
Then again, it might go the other way. If the prospects don't understand
"therapeutic", they might think its the unseemly variety of massage.
