As some of you may have noticed, I was banned for the last few days!

The ban's lift date was "never"! I had no idea as to what I possibly could have done to deserve this harsh punishment. I opened a ticket to get some insight on this unusual and confusing ban hammer event.

After pleading to Thomas to lift the ban, he did so but I never got a reason for this undertaking decision which led to me getting banned. The only thing that I can think of is that I was a little harsh with someone that I thought was being self serving in his post, or it could have been a cookie stuffer whose post was just under mine and I was accidentally banned in error.

The ban is now lifted but I lost about 1,600 posts as I was only 3 posts from the 2000 mark, but that's not the end of the world and I guess I can live with it but the only thing that's upsetting is that I appear to be a newbie now.

The sad part of not knowing why I was banned will hamper any actions in being a member moderator as it always has been encouraged to help out in stopping spam, in fear of this happening again the forum will have to do with out any assistance from myself.

I do have a question though! Can you delete one of your posts, not edit it but delete the entire post, because I have heard of this happening in the past where you can get your post in hot water for being right by a spammers post and I want to stay clear of any questionable posts by deleting my post if such an occurrence should happen.

Other than that, it's only been two days but it's great to be back to this community where I can chat with my forum friends.

Update: Most of my posts are all back!

I'd like to thank my favorite moderator Paul Myers for conforming that it was most likely human error and he possibly may have a hand in retrieving just about all of my posts.

Welcome back - I wondered if there had been an error. At the time, you were one of the less strident voices in a couple threads so it didn't make sense to me.

I report my share of junk. I surely hope you weren't banned for reporting something. If you were and it wasn't a simple mistake on the mods part, then I agree with you - I would/will all question my involvement in the whole member moderation thing.

Yea, I figured that I would keep on the down low since I don't have all the facts. I'm not quite convinced that it was the regime or on the other hand the rebels, enough said about that because we don't need another thread on the topic.

No kissing up at all, I just relate to Paul because you have to admit that he is an extremely intelligent man and what I like Most about Paul is that he tells it like he sees it.

You can unless it's the first post in the thread and someone else has replied to it. To delete a post, click the Edit button, and then click the Go Advanced button. You'll be able to delete it on that screen.

Yeah, accidents do happen. Tina Golden got banned once when she posted right after a post that she reported.

    Welcome back, Joseph.

So when you're banned and can't log in, you can still contact the help desk?

              Mark,
I surely hope you weren't banned for reporting something.
That doesn't happen unless you're engaged in one of those ridiculous feuds, and are reporting stuff repeatedly out of spite. It's an extremely rare occurrence, and bans for it are almost always temporary.

Even people with extremely low hit rates (almost all their reports are wrong) don't get banned unless there's obvious malice involved. If it's an error of understanding, we'll normally PM them to let them know. If not, we just ignore it and move on. There's no way that everyone in a system like this will view each situation the same way as the mods. Thankfully...

Bans by accident (hitting the right button on the wrong post) are also rare, but those mistakes do happen. I've done it 3 times myself that I recall. They can usually be fixed, though.

As Joseph pointed out, the help desk is available to everyone, even banned members. It's the safety valve for addressing mistakes and technical glitches, among other things.

I'm thinking that is good information to know. One can never have too many safety valves as far as I'm concerned.

True. Especially in a system in which human error is possible, and could carry significant consequences for the innocent object of the mistake.

There are lots of parts and aspects of this forum that 99%+ of the members don't know about, because they never need to. Hell, every few months I discover some access I didn't know I had, and there are tools here that even Allen doesn't know about.

The place is much bigger and more complicated than it looks. To anyone.
