I do have Norton to autofill my passwords, but it is a good idea to write them all down in a Word file!

And periodically back then up!

Well, hw many is a BAZZILLION?

I counted one time, though that WAS about 9 years ago, and I only had about 400 passwords.

I bought an address book and write my passwords in it under the the name of what the password and log in is for.

For instance, PayPal would be under "P", duh, LOL.

I also wrote myself an email with them all listed in it for me and put it in my saved mail so that I can just use the copy/paste function for the more difficult ones. I will update it as need by copy/pasting the whole email into a new compose email window, make the deletions or add ons or changes, then send it to myself, save it and delete the old one.

I am smart enough not to title it in the subject line, "all my log ins and passwords", though. It has a completely random title.

The reason I do have it outside of the computer other than computer security issues is for in case something ever happened to me, my family would have everything they needed as far as my online world is concerned.

That reminds me. In my early twenties, I met a beautiful girl (not my wife, but it would have made a better story), and I asked her out. We talked for about an hour, we joked, and finally, she just said "So, you're a boob man".

I was speechless. I didn't know whether to say "Yup" or deny it, or make a joke...The fact that I turned red faced made her laugh.

To this day, I'm a little startled when a woman says anything about anatomy or suggestive. I'm not a prude, believe me. But I'm not prepared for it.

It was actually a guy friend of mine that told me that is one of his. He says he always makes his passwords out of words with matching symbol pictures.

I have 1 that I use when the choice is mine.

The ones I'm given and can't change I copy on a 'notebook' page
and bury in other folders that are also password protected.

I figure that every time I use one, it's "out there" somewhere in cyberspace anyway.
And, the likelyhood of of someone finding them is probably less likely than someone stealing my car.
And, if someone wants it bad enough, they're going to get it.

But if I lost my notebook and couldn't get into my accounts - there's no problem. If you forget, just call the NSA and have them remind you what it is.

Come up with a unique alphanumeric string you'll remember, with one capital letter, one number, and one unique character (@!#) at the end. This will be acceptable for most sites, and the ones that don't allow special characters you can drop it off the end.

Then prefix that with some unique identifier for the website you're on - such as the first or last "X" number of letters from the domain. This way every site will have a "unique" password, but you'll always know what it is.

Heh, the way I see it, it's kind of like doing that but without being so naive about security. If someone hacked your password on one site, they won't necessarily be able to figure out the model for your other sites.

Let's say your secret word was mF123$ and you used the 2nd, third, and fourth characters of the signin domain as a prefix.

Then gmail could be maimF123$
Linkedin would be inkmF123$
Twitter would be witmF123$
etc.

Seeing them all on a screen like that might lead to someone figuring out your personal algorithm... but short of that, even if one of those sites got hacked and your password was visible to the world, it wouldn't give anyone anything useful that would lead to your other accounts also getting hacked. But you'll always remember your password on every site you sign up for without having to think about it.

I also keep my passwords in a notebook and keep it safely in my mini-office here at home. I find it safer than keeping them in my computer. I prefer it the old-fashioned way. I thought it's better this way because people at home tend to look for my personal stuff in my computer.

As primitive as it might be, I'm guess I'll just have to go with a password-protected Excel sheet kind of a thing too. My browser remembers most passwords (except on https pages), but if I want to share a password with one of my partners to work on a website, then I'm stuck.
