Cheap hosting is really a disaster !

One of my main money website goes down due to disk drive failure, the hosting provider has no backup for the server. Sadly, all of my recent work vanished in a moment, this is one of best lessons i learned so far.

So please stay away from cheap hosts as possible as you can ! Backup your data regularly, at least once a week if your site updates frequently.

A website owner should take the responsibility to backup their site continually themselves everytime they update it, not just periodically.

It's apparent that there was zero planning for failures & that there was no disk redundancy. It's a shame.

      Or maybe better...

A website owner should take responsibility!

People need to match their PHONE budget for business hosting, not the TACO BELL budget.
When you pay nothing, you get nothing. So many need to realize this.

There's many great hosts out there, but they don't promise "unlimited" for a penny.

Going for cheap isn't always the best option. If you rely on your site to make you money or your site is really important to you. Go with a quality host and don't pick the host just because they're the cheapest.

And Never rely on your host to backup your files. ALWAYS have your own backup. I've found that out the hard way as well.

I worked on a site for 2 years and didn't have a backup. I lost 2 years of work because the server crashed and all data was lost.

Even though the host boasted about them having backups. They in fact didn't.

I now backup my database daily. You just can never be too careful.

MANY companies WON'T backup regularly unless you PAY for it. ALSO, cpanel and WHM allow for backups, but is it always OFF server?

    DON'T ASSUME!

ALWAYS backup YOURSELF, and keep some backups OFF SITE! Heck, suppose they DO backup to ANOTHER server MILES away! What if an earthquake affects BOTH servers? It CAN happen! Suppose they DID have an offmachine backup, but it was at one of the sites, and the earthquake created a fire? You could have THREE copies spread out over two cities and STILL lose EVERYTHING!

The secret to getting good cheap hosting is linking up with an ambitious start-up with capital and resources to match their ambitions.

Servage is inexpensive and they are completely awesome............and I'm no tech, but I've learned the "backup your data" thingy the hard way. Applies to stuff on your computer, too. Trust me on that one.
