I watched this before. Some people saw it in a negative way and said that the dog was imposing itself on the boy. It looked to me like they have a rapport. The boy approached the dog at the beginning and at 3:15 the boy hugged the dog. It is good for a child with disabilities to have understanding and resilient friends (good for anybody, really).

There are a few syndromes, like downs, that often leave the kids with a kind of joy, and they tend to be nice. It is a shame they tend to leave the kids with a below average intelligence, etc... And many DOGS seem to tend to be passive, and want affection, and will act like this one did.

You don't see many downs kids around anymore now that it can be detected in the womb. I think it's been around five years since I've seen one.

I think their happiness is a result of their lack of intelligence. When you can't process the world like everyone else, what's there left to be pissed off about?

Down Syndrome people can be quite capable, even if they're intellectually challenged in some ways. They certainly have complexity of feelings, hopes, aspirations. They do suffer when they're treated badly. They're not anything like what you describe. That dog definitely understands the condition better than you do.

Well, from the moment I saw Chris Burke, I knew that he may have bigger problems than some think, and was doing his best to work through them, etc... you kind of have to appreciate such things more when you know the effort was that much greater.

I don't think anyone said they couldn't feel, or have hopes or aspirations. There is simply a level that many humans reach that is hopefully above a level that they normally interact at. If they fall below that interaction level, people may start to insult, etc...

It is a MYTH that intelligence indicates how you will react. I have known some very smart people that were VERY nice, and some very dumb people that were very bitter, etc....

As for the dog? Under some circumstances, if you are not aggressive towards a dog, they will try to prod you into being friendly. THIS looks like such a dog. That doesn't mean the dog knows ANYTHING about downs syndrome. They will do the same thing with a normal person.

Who knows though? For all we know, downs syndrome people may even SMELL different from others, and dogs may see a pattern. "HEY, THIS is one of those creatures that is more likely to be nice to me! I have GOT to check this out!".
