This one thing worries me....

For many years, all the newest trends in fashion, fads, lifestyle, etc seemed to begin in California and work their way East.

From environmental concerns, to acceptance of gay rights to short skirts, long skirts, and risky mortgages - California has often led the way.

Looking at the shape the state is in right now, that frightens me. Voters in California are expected to say "no" loud and clear on the measures intended to save the state financially.

I'll be watching closely to see whether that translates into voters taking back their government and their state - or leads to a total collapse of the finances of the state and leads to chaos. Whatever happens may well work it's way East in the next few months. Reminds me of hurricane warnings - you can see the storm coming and can't do a damned thing except get out of the way.

People across the nation are ticked off and they are not going to remain silent much longer if things continue as they have the past few years.

I was just saying something like that to a mate of mine in San Jose, Kay. Cali could be like the 'canary down the mine' or as you say, a 'hurricane warning'. It really does need watching.

If it goes down, and then starts spreading rapidly to other cities, then other countries, the whole system could topple like dominoes.

Meanwhile, the banksters are sitting pretty with all our money.

    Don't worry Kay.

I have lived in California all my life. Trends start in New York - especially fashion- usually first or at least simultaneously - and even Europe. (Note: Wall Street is NY not SF - all we have is Montgomery St. wallstreetwest)

... People are leaving California in droves because of all of the new taxes and the mismanagement - not to mention the border situation which is completely out of control in the southern part of the state. (and laying off law enforcement in the same area at the same time) this does not sit well. (kidnapping of children by aliens in Arizona is up over 300%. - sits on the cusp of the most southern tip of Calif).

Ironic that the property is over-valued here and for decades most people can't afford to own anything - and now that it has nosedived people aren't necessarily interested.

It is just that they don't call it 'the left coast' for nothing... I do hope you are right on pot laws and that we make it legal first.

Most gays came here from somewhere else BECAUSE of the tolerance. San Francisco in particular (where I grew up) has a very BAWDY history, so it is not that strange that it would attract 'free thinkers' and 'alternative lifestyles'.

(Or for that matter the way they give asylum to illegal aliens. St. Francis loved animals so I guess by extension everybody gets the lovebug when they go there).

      Trends start in New York
I'm talking about the trends that real people take up and use. If you look at the history of various fads and fashions, they may show first in a new york fashion show. However, those that are adopted as fads in California are the ones that have spread eastward time after time.

In the midwest, south and other areas, what happens in California is what people expect to see spreading to other parts of the country. NY is like an island - THE big city.

But fashion is only one example. Environmental causes, emission standards, mileage standards, - California has always been the most progressive state in the union for things like that. The "safe harbor" cities for illegals is another example. Sounds like you guys have your work cut out for you there but I think the rest of us will see the same in the next year.

Man, CA is in a heap of a mess, isn't it?

Well thanks Kay - I see what you mean now. Didn't really ever think about it. I just always feel like we copy everything in NY - even the street names in SF.

... but yes it is a real mess. They are having a vote today and they just said on the news that hardly anyone is even bothering to vote. Whatever unbelief I have in the system seems to be on the rise - with the average joe coming to realize there is a huge disconnect from what people want and need and what actually transpires. They call the election 'critical' and turnout 'dismal'.

It IS critical stuff too - wanna have ambulance, police and firemen? Here is another tax. Personally I hope some of these creative thinkers will figure a way to stop compromising our security - for instance how many cops could we get for 2 politicians? As far as I am concerned they could can all of them yesterday.

...even the supermarket had no lines today - now that was like being in the twilight zone. Frankly with the price of everything I wonder how the majority of people are surviving.

Good catch, Tina. That is funny. Could we convince the aliens to kidnap illegal aliens instead? That could work.

They call the election 'critical' and turnout 'dismal'.
Isn't that part of the problem? When every election year after year is referred to as "critical" people stop believing it. We can't live in a constant state of crisis - eventually we just turn away and say "why bother?"

    California is a craphole...

Average salary + benefits for a CA firefighter is 175k per year.
Sure, its a noble and honorable profession, but 175k a year?

Look up how many wealthy people are leaving CA on a daily basis because of their taxes.

Tax and spend, tax and spend. Yah, thats working...

And the real reason, even though nobody wants to admit it? All the illegals they are trying to support. Take it from someone who grew up in Arizona.

Texas has to deal with the same illegal non tax-paying population as well, but nobody seems to look at HOW they deal with it and model what they do. Sure, they do their fare share of illegal ass-kissing, but nothing like CA or some of the other states.

I could tell you tons of stories about this on a personal level, but it seems like nobody wants to hear it. Its not PC and hip.

Well, ok...since everyone asked ...I'll share one.
I was living in Arizona. Pulled into a convenience store/gas station. Some nimrod illegal alien bashed my car. I got out, asked the guy wtf....asked for his license...guy couldn't speak a word of English. He gave me some business card of some landscaping company. I said 'lick me', I'm calling the cops, and of course he took off right away.
I got his plate #, called the cops.....gave them all the info...Cops wouldn't come out to the scene because they said it was on private property (hmmm...so a hit and run is OK if you're on private property?).
Anyway...some detective called me back about an hour later, said they ran the plates and they came back stolen. He told me that he'd go ahead and proceed w/ this matter if I really wanted, but said I was really out of luck. Said the following:

    1. The guy would get a public appointed attorney that would argue that because he didn't speak English, he didn't understand that I just told him that he hit my car and I was asking for his drivers license. His attorney would argue that him giving me a business card from a landscaping company was sufficient, since he didn't understand my language. Therefore, the 'hit and run' charge wouldn't apply.

    2. Because he was more than likely an illegal, if he WAS somehow found, he would be turned over to INS since this wasn't a violent crime. Because the INS is so backlogged, he would eventually be released- they don't have time to deal with illegal issues unless they are felonies or violent crimes.

    3. Arizona has a special court system for Spanish speaking people. Everything is Spanish. Everything is Spanish biased. I'd have to get an attorney that not only speaks English, but speaks fluent Spanish as well.

In the end, he was very sympathetic, but he said I was screwed.

Thats Arizona. You gotta figure that same thing happens in California about 9999x more. Every day. All day.

Can't imagine why CA can't make things work. Hmmm...

Well I agree with everything you said,Doug except I would not go into a burning possibly collapsing building for 275k per year. I don't know where you got that salary information but I think it is way way way off at 175k.

... I can't say anything about politics - I would love to but the whole subject makes me extremely agitated and I know whatever I will say would be misconstrued and/or offend someone.

Welcome to Amerixico or whatever. We have been had big time and as everyone can see now it is only getting worse.

Cleaning house on illegals would in fact fix a big part of the problem - and not just in California, Arizona and Texas.

The day I hear they have given all 14 million amnesty and more free ride, is the day I go back to how I was where I would sooner suffer a root canal than read the newspaper or hear the news. I just can't stand it. I am hyperventilating. lol. (almost true).

It is not even the illegals I hate the most - it is the politicians and "shadow government" that is FORCING it on us.

Fashion is a NY thing - but activism is CA. Unfortunately they got so progressive out there that they ruined themselves. Here in WA there seems to be a move to curb the illegal problem. A few of the fruit companies are now requiring English speaking for employment - for the first time in years. And everify is on the table although the ACLU treasoners are advising against it.

We might as well face it. It's time for us to get a group of about 10 mil to head out to DC and tell them to either reconstituionalize NOW or get out of office. We're in some pretty big danger now - legislation is coming down to take guns, to take free speech, control food, take health freedom, the economics are doing nothing but draining us.

It's time to quit sending tea bags and start ousting traitors. If a legislator in any state votes for anything unconstitutional the citizens of that state need to remove them for reasons of breech of oath, no confidence, etc. so fast that all of their heads will spin.

About to look into a group to start petitions and class action suits here. I've had enough of this shit. It's gone too far.

Hell, Pat - Europe isn't going to be any safer. That's what I have been thinking is that I just want to leave........but where the hell do you go that the globalists don't have some grasp on? Right now it looks like Canada is only a tad safer - if at all. They are closing their borders, but what is going on in legislation is another thing.

Even Australia is starting to feel the chains. Not sure what NZ is doing

What we need to think about before turn coat bugging out - is:
    1. What country isn't being taken over.
    2. How do you think any other country is going to feel when millions of disgusted Americans start pouring over their borders to get away from the tyranny? How fast will their own economies crash if they allow mass immigrations.

No....taking off is the wrong idea. We aren't bred from coward stock. We need to fight this bull shit fascism. When civil war breaks out people like you and I who are a bit too old to do much but get killed in actual combat might need to get out of the way, but we need to do what we can to take our country back until that time - and anything we can to help OUR troops after that.

No one expected the proposals to pass - but I don't see it a laughable. He turned around and asked for a federal bailout today, didn't he?

If CA were a country it would have the 8th largest economy (according to a news report anyway) - why should the rest of us bail it out? That's going to cause a huge fuss if it happens.

Seems the people's message was "cut back and make do" - but the message received was "beg for money somewhere else".

ever heard of irony, cynicism, or facetious? that's where my laugh comes from. i can tell you california has given up some big time 100-125 year old corps to North Carolina, and lots of other places, even Japan. JUST TO NAME ONE.

We lost the headquarters of Bank of America (started as Bank of Italy in San Francisco, California) - so if anybody has to bail all I can say is what goes around comes around. Goodbye THOUSANDS of jobs now in North Carolina not to mention THOUSANDS more to India.

What they need to do is do away with a lot of commie programs and stop giving away the farm if we want the California deficit to disappear. Taxes should be for police, fire, school, emergency, infrastructure - not for entitlement programs for illegals and war in other people's countries. We got a war right here.

So as usual both sides are wrong to some degree and at the usual impasse. everybody loses nobody wins.

The only way to take back this country is to ---TAKE IT BACK!

A good start would be changing the laws to remove all rights for illegal immigrants. (All illegal immigrants, not just Hispanics.) Simple as that. No right to a court-appointed attorney, no right to a court-appointed interpreter, no right of habeas corpus, no right to even file a lawsuit to sue an employer for not paying them overtime, no right to any protections granted to CITIZENS by the Constitution!

If you are not a card-carrying member of this country (club) then you should have no rights to the benefits of membership!

English-speaking Americans must begin standing up for themselves! Stop putting up with it when you hear Spanish language announcements at the grocery store. Yell at the managers and make sure they know why you are so pissed off! Take your money and your business elsewhere. Start being vocal, raise your voices and be heard. Lets take a page from the Mexican playbook and hold massive May Day protests in the streets AGAINST illegals trying to tell us what our policies should be. Americans have been doing that, but we need millions more to come out of their houses and become active! WE are many millions more than THEY are, all we have to do is SHOW UP!

One reason illegal immigration has become the problem it is today is because Americans have not raised their voices and said "NO!" We've been passive participants in the takeover of our own homeland. We even send our own police, judges, hospital personnel, EMT's, firefighters, and many other professions to Spanish class at taxpayer expense, so they can deal with their clientele, even in Minnesota, far from the Mexican border. Our 911 dispatchers can't get the job unless they are bilingual, for Christ's sake! I can't even get a job at McDonalds unless I speak Spanish! Why the hell are YOU letting this happen? Yes, YOU! It's your fault for not speaking up! (Make no mistake, I also have been too silent for too long. We are all at fault.)

I have been sitting in a Hardee's restaurant all day and I have seen a continual stream of people walking in to fill out an application for employment. I just spoke to ther manager about it and he said he doesn't know why they are coming in --he's not hiring! He has as many people as he can put on and he's not advertising or anything.

Is this a sign of dire times becoming even more dire? People are out of work and can't find jobs. I've noticed several peope who walked in, literally. Most drive into the parking lot. But several of them didn't even have a car. Is it broke down? Can't they afford the gas for it? Do they even have a car? I don't know.

All I know is it's not a good sign.

Leave the USA? Sure, but go where? That's the problem. I'll choose to stay and fight on familiar ground. They can pass their laws and try to control every aspect of my life, but I assure you, if they're going to take me out, I'm taking a lot of them with me.

As it stands, my dollar bill is still accepted in trade for things I need, such as food and gasoline. Long as that continues, I guess we'll be okay, at least in the short term.

As California goes, so goes the rest of the nation. It's just a matter of time if we don't start speaking out, standing up for our country against the invaders and start saying no.

    NO HABLA ESPANOL!!!
