Truck Convoy Protest Causing Traffic Problems on Capital Beltway « CBS DC

Truckers 'rolling protest' hard to spot around capital

We wondered here whether the truckers would go to D.C. in big numbers today...or not.

Seems often these "protests" are highly publicized before the event and then claims of big numbers are made after the event....with no real coverage in between.

As late as yesterday, bikers were saying they would also show up in large numbers to support truckers...and veterans said they would be protesting at the WWII memorial...could be an interesting weekend to watch.

The drivers might show up but they would be crazy to risk their CDL or truck/trailer ticket/impound for causing any traffic problems.

I agree - and the situation was complicated by the one man who started making wild statements about arresting Congress, etc. He's not part of the group but got media attention unfortunately.

I think tomorrow will be the day to watch. Enough people are aware of this one it won't be possible to claim "millions" or "tens of thousands" of participants after the fact.

I'm not against protests at all - but I'm tired of the exaggerated claims after the fact and that's become too common.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Those feelings may be more widespread than we know. Hard to say since nobody would do a poll on that.

Take a look at the shift in congressional job approval in just one month:

Congress' Job Approval Falls to 11% Amid Gov't Shutdown

Republicans give them 15%. Democrats just 5%. And that Democrat number is the interesting one since political uprisings always come out of the left. That's where the young lawless males are at. They are the ones who spark it every time in any country. We seem to still be a ways off from that, but who knows how fast things could change if this congressional drama doesn't end.

organizer Zeeda Andrews says could attract as many as 3,000 big rigs to the nation's capital, only had about 30 participants as of 10 a.m.
Lol. 30? That's sounds like a dud of a protest, similar to the 2 Million Bikers that had only a few thousand.
