Has your Laptop ever Pissed you off ?

Has your laptop frozen in the middle of some important work?
Or have you lost your article writing before saving it for some reason?

This happened to me many times as I do not have a powerfu laptop. Even when I open several tabs like 10+, it freezes. Gets on my nerve and the only reason I have not crushed it into pieces is that I am aware I can not afford to buy if I loose this one.

What is your story on this?

Well hopefully your new story on this is "Lessons Learned".

Now that you know that your laptop can't handle 10 open windows, you will limit the number of windows you have opened. Use your bookmarks in your browser for sites you'd like to return to and close a window when you want to open a new one. Sure it's a couple of extra steps but it is easier than retyping the URL every time and much much better than your laptop freezing on you.

Also when you are creating content, hit the save button after every new sentence or two. Again, it's a few more steps, but it's better to lose a sentence or two compared to the whole doggone thing, don't you think?

You just have to be smarter than your laptop until such a time that you can afford a new and improved one.

Oh, and you have started saving for it, right?

Yep, many times, the mouse usually gets bashed on the table a few times, and this is after fragmenting and running an antivirus.

But it is pretty rare and l do have an external hard drive, (a godsend when l mess up a file).

If your computer, laptop or PC, hasn't pissed you off at one time or another, you're not using it enough.:p

I lost a long-ass post for WF this morning that would have likely changed the world. But it wan't my computer's fault. It was the dwarfs. They've been really bugging me lately.

    Some pointers that can help:

    * Keep your computer in shape!
Remove clutter using programs like ccleaner (Redirecting...), DEfragment your drive using Auslogics Disk Defrag (Download Auslogics Disk Defrag Free) much better defrag algorithm than the built-in windows defragmentation tool. Check the programs the run in the background, without you knowing or needing them. They might slow down your computer, while you don't even need them.

    * Any current Office program has an autosave feature that you can configure. It'll make automated back-ups of your files which you can restore in case of a crash or a hang-up.

    * Some browsers have excellent add-ins that can save your inputted text, should your browser crash or freeze.

Everything I linked to, is of course, free, tried and tested by a geek like me

Another, very odd find with my laptop was removing the battery helped. Evidently, even though the laptop was plugged into the wall, it was still causing some issue with a faulty battery. I removed the battery and the problems went away. I know it sounds odd, but it may be worth a try for a laptop that is on the verge of being broken into pieces!

Yes it has. Yesterday I had just got done writing out a detailed response to a sales ticket I received. As soon as I moved my mouse down to hit send the browser completely vanished. I was like wtf?

The browser was nowhere to be found and I only had one tab open and it didn't say "not responding" It acted completely normal until then. I didn't get any error messages or anything.

I thought it might be a virus but the computer had no viruses when I checked.

I had to rewrite this detailed sales ticket and now I make sure I have a copy of what I wrote in notepad so I don't lose it again.

    Chad,

The incredible disappearing browser trick sounds like Firefox. If so, try installing Safari and using that until FF gets their IT together.

Yep. It was indeed Firefox. Never knew they had a problem like that. Thanks for the info.

      I'll give Safari a try.

      Paul,

Is this with current versions of FF?

I'm trying to demote Google from wife to mistress, so I'm looking at other browsers.

        Joe,

Yep. Even with v 24.0 of FF, I run into that problem. It's most common on my system when passing the mouse over links in the Google SERPs, oddly.

You'd think they'd be more friendly toward open source software. Or vice-versa...

Yeah, I ever lost my article in the word editor before saving it.
Though I was really upset, I still had to write the article again.

I wonder what he would have done with a 7.14 mhz processor with 6 apps running.
