In Park City, Utah they do this on downhill skis. There is a grid of pipes at the bottom of the pool through which they shoot compressed air moments before the skiers hit the water. This "foams" the pool to make for softer landings.

Then they have to swim while wearing 30 pounds of skis and boots.

This is at the same Utah Olympic Park in Park City. The fun begins at about 3:30 minutes into the video. I got to do this in a 4 man sled down the same run 4 or 5 years ago. It is the most awesome roller coaster ride without rollers.
