What Is A "Loser Attitude"?

I've been contemplating what entails a loser attitude. I think, in a nutshell, a loser attitude is a state-of-mind that involves repeatedly employing approaches in life that simply do not work. Loser attitudes take many forms. Do you have any thoughts on this?

DISCLAIMER: I have good intentions here and am not putting myself out as the epitome of humanity at its best or something like that. Perhaps some people might even benefit from thinking about this and adjust things so that they get better results in life. More likely (loser comment coming up), this will turn into an embittered vitriolic thread full of accusations and ideological stances in which case it will be rightly deleted (hopefully without me being banned).

I think what you are describing is making wrong decisions, but not a loser attitude. There are plenty of people that make wrong life choices that I wouldn't consider losers, just not very bright.

We all fall down in life, repeatedly. I don't think of someone as a "Loser" until they say they were pushed.

A Loser has one trait that I always see, without exception. They blame everything and everyone for their lack of success...except themselves.

Maybe it's your fault that they blame others for their lack of success

To me, one of the traits of having a loser attitude is worrying about each and every thing that could go wrong about everything. Oh, Woe is me...

I call it the Eeyore Complex.

Before I had my first success with IM, I had the classic loser attitude. I couldn't
do anything right and always believed I would be a failure my whole life. Maybe
that's part of the reason why I was. Then I had IM success and my attitude
          turned around 180 degrees.

Now I'm back to square one. Business failed and I'm starting from scratch.

But this time something is different. Because I did have success, even for just
a brief time (about 8 years) I believe I can do it again. I'm determined to make
my new business a success. I know it won't be easy as I'm up against some
tough competition. One of the top 3 sites in this area has been online since
2003 and has about 2,000 songs in its collection. So I have my work cut out
          for me.

But my attitude is simple this time around.

          Failure is not an option.

That doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to see the success that I used to
have. All it means is that I'm not giving up until I do succeed. I believe it
          CAN happen.

Sometimes you need to have at least just a taste of success to get rid of
that "loser" attitude. I can understand people who have never had even a
taste feeling like they'll never amount to anything. It's hard to believe that
you will when you never have.

I'm just glad I'm not there anymore.

Even if I am just about broke right now.

My present roomie is the epitomy of the loser attitude. Everything sucks. She can find more things in one day that suck than I even pay attention to in 24 hours. Her life sucks but she does not one thing to change it. If something needs to be done, she bitches because nobody has done it for her. Serious - she's lived here 5 years and doesn't even know how to turn on the heater by herself or how to flip a switch if a fuse blows. But she sits on the couch and bitches for 3 hours every time either needs to be done. I just leave. Looking for a new place -- because living with a loser and listening to her whine 24/7 (well, that's not true - she sleeps 12 -13 hours a day) is NOT my idea of the way to stay on the road to success. Holy cow.

Um....she's the one who lived here when I moved in. Not MY place. I'm looking for somewhere else....just not finding anything affordable at the time and really gun-shy of roommates after a few bad encounters. If I had known she had to have her mommy come clean her house for her to have me look at it, I'd not have gotten here in the first place, LMAO.

I'm taking it slow because I can stay away from her most of the time...and because I'm looking into going back to ID. Want to make the right move when I make one....saving the pennies to be able to do it when I find it, though. I was going to go to live with a friend in UT, but that fell through when her son had to move home so got waylaid at the last minute.

It's all good - everything happens for a reason and when the time is right, the opportunity will reveal itself.

Waiting for other people to take action first and getting nothing done while you wait. I wasted SO much time waiting for someone to teach me this, or waiting for a customer to do that, then got ticked off at everyone else because "my hands were tied and I couldn't get anything done." It was really just an excuse to procrastinate and feel better about my own inability to focus and get stuff done. I resolved earlier this year to stop doing that, and it's been a much better year than in the past because of it.

A looser attitude is a lack of the capacity to take action. A "looser" is someone who is just looking for reasons why it was better not to risk failing.

My brother once make the remark: "Some people aren't happy unless they're miserable."
They have low self esteem and believe nothing good will come their way.
They will subconsciously undermine their own endeavors to insure failure because they don't believe they're worthy of success.

A loser attitude isn't doing something that won't work, it is not realizing that and changing when necessary!

It is also someone who gives up after one or more failures!

      Successful people never give up!

And the failures cannot figure them out, or think that they are throwing their life away!

And when the do succeed, then they have to say, "how lucky are you", to cover themselves against admitting that they lack the courage to do it themselves.

Failures are also people who bitch about their failures, and ignore sound advise! Or ignore or don't bother thanking the people giving it!

It is a principle of scientific progress to succeed by learning from failure. Failure is a fundamental component of success...for someone willing to learn from it and adjust accordingly.

Could it be that deep inside they know they're capable of success but are afraid of it? Is it sometimes an effective survival strategy not to stick out too much? If so, such a strategy could easily be self-defeating when taken too far.

I like your brother already. Yes, I know that we have a "comfort zone". For example, some of us identify with physical pain, misery, and thinking about our maladies. It's who we are. It consumes us. I don't think of them as Losers, just not happy.

Yes. Most of my relatives are low income underachievers. But they aren't losers. They are where they want to be. Who am I to tell them different?

I even have a friend that complains constantly. It's almost like watching a bad movie. Just always one step from certain doom. But he isn't a loser, just unhappy.

But people that consistently blame others? And do nothing to help themselves, and complain about others? They are toxic. And want to drag others down with them. They are losers to me.

Fortunately, these toxic people are relatively rare.

Interesting to see all the ideas about what a loser attitude is. I might define it as "bad mental programming." Many times that programming started before they were old enough to think for themselves. It can be very hard to escape from it.

True, failure ain't easy, sometimes it can rip your heart out, emotionally speaking; you start to stare down at the abyss of never succeeding, and wonder is that your destiny?

But you dust yourself off and try again, until progress is made!

Not sure whether they are afraid of it, considering most lotto winners, blow the lot on fun stuff, and end up worse off!

Hmmmmm, maybe they do, subconsciously, but l suspect that the adversity of the path, and the giant gamble of the task is what scares them!

Or l will end up broke and old, reason!

Which is ironic, since the top regret on their deathbed is not going for it????

I think Jim Morrison got it right in the Doors song, "People Are Strange." Once one has seen how quickly people shift, it does alter one's perspective, makes one more wary.

There's a big difference between failing and having a "loser attitude". The most successful people have failed many times getting there. The difference is that they get up and keep trying. A loser attitude keeps you from getting up and learning from your mistakes.
