Quite interesting though how people can be so easily distracted from what they are doing.

  • OK, I DON'T get it! ESPECIALLY on a HIGH PRICED item, they don't even notice the difference of COLOR!?!?!? And what sense does counting sheets mean? It could be another currency, or another denomination. I mean if a guy pays ME $4000+ in cash, I would want $100s, $20s, etc.... And money is not REALLY made out of paper. It has a different feel.

    OK, most cash I get, I get from ATMs, and I count it. So I guess I am not THAT likely to have this problem, but I guess I should even make sure to scrutinize every detail! WOW! Even old LAUNDROMAT changers, that USED to only check paper dimensions, now check OTHER things. Most coke machine changers can detect most counterfeits by looking at only about .5" of the bill!!!!! The WORST I have had happen here is getting a canadian quarter from a vending machine, as change.

  • I'm not sure exactly how he gets away with paying with paper but I can sort of see how he's destracting them. I remember not long ago actually I was doing work on the computer and somebody asked me to sign somebodys birthday card but because I wasn't concentrating fully on what they were saying I just signed it like you would a cheque rather than put in something like have a good birthday, al , like I normally would.

    I also went in a shop once to buy some cigarettes. I was walking down the road after and realised I had somehow managed to walk out with a random magazine as well. I don't how that happened I just remember looking down and thinking what am I doing with this and took it back. Strange.

    • Well, abbot and Costello did this a LOT! I think the three stooges did ALSO. But THEY merely tried to get you to think of different numbers and make it seem like the amount counted was enough, or more than, the agreed on amount. But that is ENTIRELY different from trying to pass blank paper.

      As for the magazine? WHO KNOWS?!?!?

  • Alistar being in the UK is probably far more familiar with Darren Brown than most Americans.
    I actually believe this is from a special he did a few years back "testing" the waters over here.

    He is the opposite of CA.

    • Notice the way he says something along the lines of "take it, it's fine", incorporated into the story he's telling as he hands over the money, on every occasion. He did that in all three attempts as he handed over the money.

      I think it's called something like distraction suggestions.

      "I need a headache tablet, I was worried but my mate says (as he hands of the money) no take it, that's fine"

      I'm not quite sure how people switch off at that point but for those that have read Robert Cialdini - "Click - Whirr".
