Riffle; First, water doesn't cure thirst. An hour or so later, you're thirsty again.

And if you drink Chinese water...you're thirsty 30 minutes later. Scientific fact.

I think men like having sex with attractive wives for one reason. They can actually see the wife. If the man couldn't see the woman...it wouldn't matter as much.

Wives don't care so much about what the husband looks like for one reason. They keep their eyes closed during sex. I know I would, if I were them.

    Science..quantum theory...it's all there.

Beauty is only skin deep, but there again so are warts, scars, and facial hair.

Attractive wives or not so attractive wives. There's no difference because it's what you chose, and what you obviously get pleasure and satisfaction from. Saying that you wish your wife was more attractive is akin to saying you'd like more money. Some men can never have enough beauty (and have affairs), or enough money (and work their butt off into an early grave or end up too old to enjoy it). Then there are those who are satisfied with their lot, regardless.

Over a period of time we associate compatibility, friendship, companionship, and values such as trust and honesty, as much more important than looks alone, even when they've morphed and have a face that looks like it's hit the sidewalk regularly, and a body that's decided it's never too late to explore the four points of the compass simultaneously.

If a woman keeps her looks and figure well into her senior years, that's good. If not, so what. There's always a switch that flicks the light off. Or the ball game, or the pub, or the golf course, or the racetrack, or the . . .

Um..........exactly who paid for THAT study?

Ray - attractive partners (and I believe that women are happier if the hubby isn't barkin' either), can be high maintenance - but a little of that isn't bad for anyone. If you have to work to keep a spouse, it means you are taking better care of yourself, and keeping life a tad more interesting than you might otherwise. There's nothing that can kill motivation more than being in a nice safe comfort zone.

Sal; You may be completely right. And you may be seeing this in a bigger context than I am. I only know about my wife and myself.

We are extremely comfortable with each other. My wife is still attractive, but was a real head turner when we got married. And, to be fair...I wasn't bad looking either.

I never felt like she was high maintenance. And she wasn't. I'm motivated to do things for her, and provide nicely for her...because she's exceptional and gives more than she gets. I never felt like I had to work to keep her. But I did work hard, because she deserved the effort.

Now, if she were good looking, and shallow...that would be a different story.

Maybe I misunderstood what you meant. And your comment may be far more applicable to most people. Anyway, I enjoy the exchange.

The study, recently published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, first rated each member of the couples by "objective," independent researchers, and then asked up to eight times over the first four years of marriage to rate their satisfaction.
After four years their looks probably hadn't changed much for most of them. Ask them in 20 or 30 years when the looks have faded a good bit and marriage satisfaction is much more dependent on personality.

    Another stupid study.

Yeah, temporarily maybe but they like to be poked. You can tell it's a troll when they have a rapid fire extremely objectionable, inflammatory post for each response and they escalate. I've never seen a poster win in a troll thread when the troll is an experienced troll and this one was experienced. The whole thread was spiraling out of control fast.

TITLE: If You Wanna Be Happy
    Lyrics and Chords

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So from my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall
As soon as he marries her, then she starts
Doin' the things that will break his heart

But if you make an ugly woman your wife
You'll be happy for the rest of your life
An ugly woman cooks your meals on time
An she'll always give you peace of mind

Don't let your friends say you have no taste
    Go ahead and marry anyway
Though her face is ugly and her eyes don't match
Take it from me, she's a better catch

Generally people end up with partners at similar levels of good looks. The men with attractive wives would probably tend to be goodlooking themselves. Society is generally kinder to goodlooking people, so they are more likely to be content, I would guess, not just because they have attractive wives.

Men have a knack at taking women for granted - no matter how physically beautiful they are.

    More so than women.

    Why?

Because men are naturally less emotionally open.

When a man marries an attractive woman, he'll be satisfied for a little while. But even though his wife is desired by virtually every man who sees her, he's taking her for granted and looking for something on the side. A man's thirst for beauty... and dominating that beauty never ends. Just one beautiful woman won't quench that thirst.

    On the other hand...

If she's beautiful on the inside too...

    Well...

That might be a different story.

    Mark

P.S. The most beautiful woman I ever had sex with was the worst lay. Just saying...

Men are less emotionally open perhaps because we're raised to suppress our emotions. "Big boys don't cry" works pretty good to quiet a bawling boy. This and many other similar sayings are often used to subdue and subvert our emotions, but I'm not sure how "natural" it is.
