This is incredible video of a guy filming an approaching tornado and it moves over and rips apart his home. Intense, heartbreaking, lots of swearing, NSFW.

Wow, incredible video. Sure drives home the point that life can change in an instant. Hope they had good insurance.

      Whoa!

I hope when the shock wears off, they realize just how fortunate they really were in not being injured or worse!

I really can't help but think as to why a person who's in a house that's seemingly collapsing around them deems it priority to get it on film.

I'd be more focused on getting my wife out, sans the unnecessary commentary which appears to be a contribution intended to make the video more dramatic whilst it's throwing the woman into further panic.

Yeah it seems almost like cheap acting.

The question needs to be asked, especially for us in AU, is why the hell would anyone want to live in such an area?

            Cheap land?????

I mean if an sales rep, said, yep this house is 30k cheaper than most, but it will probably turn into a pile of rubble in the next 20 years, l would think, screw that!

Or at least build a house out of reinforced cement?????

The same sort of crap in AU with fireprone areas. The smart ones that put an automatic sprinkler on their roofs, keep their house and most others don't!

I don't really get the mindset! Please explain?

Why do lots of Aussies build in flood prone areas?

Why do they build in bush fire prone areas?

              Cheap land?????
              Got it in one.

Sadly, an automatic sprinkler system won't save any house from the types of bushfires we get. It might save part of it, but it will probably still be damaged beyond the point of repair, ie, the insurance company will decide that it's cheaper to demolish the house and start again.

Even if the structure remains intact, all their possessions will be lost, and that is the real heartbreak of these events. The house may be able to be rebuilt, but no amount of insurance can replace all those little prized possessions that people accumulate over the years, such as family photos and the likes.

I don't really get the mindset! Please explain?
What I don't get is the mindset of people who build in areas like that and don't take out insurance.

Some of them claim "they couldn't afford it". Fine, try rebuilding - see if you can afford that.

In some cases it may be that insurers refuse to cover anything in that zone. If you can't get insurance there, you shouldn't live there. Simple logic, really.

However, you and I know how much emphasis there is placed on owning your own home in Australia, and so people trying to "keep up with the Jones's" will race headlong into a mortgage on whatever (and wherever) they can afford, without any thought to scenarios like floods, fires, earthquakes, or any other natural disasters.

Speaking as someone who worked for over 15 years in the insurance industry, I can tell you that these things are sad, but very, very true.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

I can't speak for the citizens of AU, but here in the states, about two thirds of the country is included in the Tornado Danger Zone, myself included.

If you add in the earthquake danger zones, then none of the country would be considered safe to reside in.

And we haven't discussed hurricane, flood, wild fire or blizzard zones either.

We live where we live, because that's where we like to live. There is no such thing as a Mother Nature Free Zone in the US.

Hmmm, probably explains why rich people around the world seem to build their mansions out of cement sheets!

Safeguards against freak events! Might safeguard against fires too, but as whateverpedia, has mentioned the contents would still get fried, so.....

The rich not only get richer they don't end up on the news after their house got clobbered! Well not usually! :p
