To Firefox or not to firefoxIs it just me

Is it just me,or is everyone out there getting turned off with Mozilla Firefox? I often read that they are moving too fast with their upgrades, but that freight train keeps on speeding on. As I write this on my brand new Mac laptop with windows,Firefox 25.1 is searching for upgrades. Firefox has been my #1 choice in browsers for some time.
My ancient Desktop (all of 4 years old) seems to be having no problems just yet although it has had issues with Firefox, and forget about IE 10,I attached it permanently to IE8 until I'm ready and able to replace the machine.
My 2 year old PC laptop (Toshiba) does not want to operate with Mozilla Firefox at all these days (a recent occurrence) and the Mac has had just a couple of "not responding" signals recently, with IE10 causing zero problems.
Any one with an answer to my dilemma is welcomed to comment.

Maybe for you, but you're just Chosen. .......

      Just sayin.......

I'm not a tech type either and have used FF since can't remember when. It's not easy for me to feel comfy changing a browser. Were I technically inclined, I'd probably just be all out bored with this one by now. I'm not. I'm comfortable. But they keep putting out updates and some of them make life a tad difficult for me. I don't like Chrome, I know that one. Not sure, myself what would be a good alternative, so I'm watching this thread myself.

Yes.I do have chrome sitting on all my taskbars, but rarely use it;it runs well but seems rather limited, but maybe I should reconsider once I expand its limitations somehow. For example, I use Roboform as my password collector but cannot find a way of adding its toolbar onto Chrome.

I wouldn't use a browser by Google if they paid me to use it. I like having at least the illusion of superior security.

Firefox is hogging too much RAM these days. It's also been stable.

The only reason I'm still using it is for the Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar. There's nothing like that on Chrome. I even looked into Chrome extension development thinking I'd make one and switch to Chrome, but the API doesn't let you access the bookmarks bar.

I might have to look into alternatives if Firefox doesn't get it straight.

Look up Comodo Dragon. It's essentially the same thing as Chrome but not maintained by Google.

FF is still my browser of choice but it has been locking up on me a lot lately
only to find that is is hogging my RAM resources. so I have to shut down
the browser and restart every now and then. I've tried other browsers
but can't get myself switching after making to he switch from IE to FF
    many moons ago.

I use Chrome as my main browser and FireFox as my backup. I find FF to be slower than Chrome and choose not to use it unless I'm having issues with Chrome which is a rarity.

I was just saying the other day FireFox is the new Explorer - Clunky and Stupid.

I really don't like it but it is my back-up to Chrome. (still just a tad better than IE)

    Very disappointed in it.

If you have 64 bit machine Try WaterFox. Its the 64 bit version of FF.

Very stable. Very Fast, and not over run with updates.
    .
Also for you guys not too happy with FF. Keep in mind sometimes the plug ins
are the actual problem. Not FF itself. It is also set up where you really
customize the settings for each machine. Not only speeding it up
but helping it be more stable on older and not so stable set ups. (about:config)

and if your one that ff freezes on a lot.

Open tools, click the advance tab and then un check hardware acceleration.
That will help with most freezing issues ( unless its a plug in causing it )

      What????

But l have to admit that IE, keeps stuffing up and closing down, which is weird considering l don't use it!

But some online help, helped me to reset some things and reduce this nonsense!

Well, thank you all. Lots of interesting suggestions and anecdotes. I'm glad I'm not the only one with Firefox problems. But why an "ancient" machine should keep on running Firefox normally (although when V17 arrived I had to uninstall it and skipped a couple of versions until I thought it was safe to play). It hasn't had any major issues since V20. But the 2-year-old Toshiba laptop suddenly refuses to work with Firefox. If I'm able to I will take on a couple of your suggestions with settings, etc.

Thanks. I've just made that change. If it helps with the incessant problems I've been having with FF, I will be one happy camper. The crashes when I do Google searches are annoying.

It will also be nice if it fixes the issues I've been having with Fireshot. Anyone know of a similar plugin for Safari?

If you continue to have issues.Try this. Turn FF off.
Make sure it is really off.

Then Hold shift and click the FF start icon.
It will ask you to start in safe mode. Click yes.

Then go about doing your thing. If it doesn't freeze, crash or hog memory
you will know it is a plug in or your settings causing the issue.

This update my problem was the plugins. Took me hella time to figure out how to deal with it and I have no memory of what that was. Just clicked until I fixed it. (yeah, I'm a tech's nightmare).

Where do I find out if I have a 64 bit machine? Serious.

Firefox is my main browser. Haven't experienced any major problems, but I've noted it does hog memory especially when many tabs are opened. Even after closing these tabs, the memory is not released as anyone would expect. Only a browser restart clears the problem.

Apart from that memory issue, Firefox runs great on my PC. One more thing, I've noted some addons slow down the browser, so I only keep those that are absolutely necessary. Sometimes we tend to keep addons which we 'think' will be required in the near future, only to burden the system unnecessarily.

    Sal,

If you have a "My Computer" icon on your desktop, right-click on that and select Properties from the menu. You'll see the OS, total ram and disk space, and whether it's a 32 or 64 bit OS.

If you don't have that icon visible, hold down the Windows key and tap E. In the window that comes up, right-click on "Computer" in the listing on the left side of the pane, and select "Properties." Same screen will pop up as above.

It doesn't tell me. This is all it tells me and I am clueless about what it means.

        Yep, l would say so!

I do have XP on my Computer and W7 on my Laptop, both with 32 bit!

64 is quicker and handles more RAM. but it can have issues with old software!
