    I'm not surprised at all. Frankly - I've been expecting a lot more of them considering social factors going on right now. There's some frightening legislation that will give parental rights to the UN, too, going on right now. If that goes through, you will probably see violence rise to unfathomable proportions. Just my guess from a sociological background.

    Over-riding parent's discipline hasn't worked very well for us and I don't see more of that doing any better. I think it'd really be kewl to see women that actually want to stay home with the kids able to do so again. Most families can't afford one income, and I think it hurts us that more families don't have a stay at home parent. My mom stayed home and a lot of other moms did, too, but some of my friends parents worked in my community. There was always plenty of moms around to keep us on the straight and narrow. Families were happier, too - less stress. Raising kids and keeping a home can be a full time job + in the first place. Now you have overly busy, stressed parents and too many third parties into the kid's upbringing.

    Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I really think it would be a good way to be able to go back to.

      Considering the majority of children today live in one parent homes - i don't think a non-working parent is the way to go for most people.

      I do know quite a few parents who have a parent at home all the time - that's great if someone in the fmaily earns enough to support the family.

      What was impressive today was how the school emergency was handled in Colorado. They had procedures clearly defined - the students had drilled and the plan was activated immediately.

      It means they learned a lot from Columbine - when they stood around outside for so many hours trying to decide when to go in.

      My mom stayed home with us in 1960's-1970s but I wish she hadn't. She made it clear that her children were a huge burden to her. It would have been better if we'd been left with a stranger.

        Well, that's another problem. Some people should never be allowed to be parents in the first place. In this world, however, no matter how overcrowded we get, any woman who wants to drop babies can do so as often as her body will push them out.

        I probably could have been a much better mother than 90% of the women out there...but I wouldn't have been happy being one, so had myself sterilized. It seemed the responsible thing to do. I have friend who had kids because hubby insisted - and then hubby disappeared leaving them with kids to raise on their own - which is another thing I believe in is having 2 parents whenever at all possible. Stuff happens, sure - but at least give a kid a shot at 2 parents.

        That said - I'm glad your mom had at least one - I'm just sorry that you were raised by someone who did not enjoy and appreciate her child. That to me is very sad.
