Ok, So every one thinks that staying at home and making money is the best job in the world. But we know just how hard it can be, the 15 hour days, 7 days a week can get to us and we need vacations too! So to thoes of you out there in the US, where do you like to vacation?

Im starting to think about my family vacation for this summer and am trying to come up with a few different places to think on, thought about Hawaii, but the 20 hr plane trip each way fro the east cost with 2 kids under 6 does not seem pleasurable.

Thought about Atlantis resort Bahamas but from my research a family of 4 will end up paying about 20k for a week there.. We done Disney world Orlando a couple years ago and that was not a good experience, But my kids are a bit older now so that may be different...

Soooo Where do YOU like to vacation or where WOULD you like to vacation???

I prefer low key places like a beach on the Gulf and then surf the stores and tourist traps. Other times, using our own home as a base, day trips to interesting places we haven't seen before. Things like cave tours, museum trips, amusement parks, zoo, sports games eating lunch and dinner out, but coming home at night to get ready for tomorrow's trip and get breakfast at home.

It's great to pack a cooler with drinks and sandwiches and treats for lunch and munching. Then it's only dinner out. You get to see and experience a lot of totally different places at your leisure while ignoring the high cost of airfare, hotel and breakfast when you travel far away. In any event, I prefer to drive rather than fly.

Then, too, a lot depends on how much we have available to spend what we will do. This past summer was a bummer with social engagements, showers, picnics, fishing trips, weddings, babies born, etc. which precluded us going away -- sometimes two events in a single weekend. The amount spent for obligatory presents and bringing foods to events was quite a bit. It was unsual how many events were packed into last summer. In any event, it's also lovely to be named on that many guest lists.

I can think of a lot of places I want to go--round trip driving distance--right around where we live that would make for an enjoyable day out without the hotel bill. And, speaking of hotels/motels, we'd rather stay away since the bed bug scare reports have been out for awhile.

As for a cruise somewhere -- no! Seems like there have been fires, engine failures, accidents and way too many people get seriously ill on cruise ships in the recent past.

Any place that has sun, sand and surf! Fresh or saltwater, near or far, makes no difference. Just send me to the sunny shores and I'm blissful.

There's more than enough sand/water at Silver Lake, MI.

Does meditational state of mind count as vacation?

If not then Costa Rica, I would love to go there!

Hands down...Barbados! And it will not cost 20K and is a short flight from eastern states. I fell in love with the place when I was there for work for 6 months. Now I am back 3 or 4 times a year.

I recommend the Christ Church area, and if you are on a budget check out short term rentals such as a 2 bedroom apartment. The beaches are great for children and adults. Also, the food there is fantastic with something for everyone even finicky eaters.

Summer is off season so prices are great for flying and accommodations. I normally book the flight and accommodations myself.

If you have any questions or want some more information pm me.

Ironically, I like to vacation in Washington, DC.
I absolutely love the Metro, and it's proximity
to surrounding attractions (ie. VA, MD, the Zoo).

I also love all the educational resources around
you. Not many cities have museums with free
    admission quite like DC does.

The world renounded cherry blossoms in spring
is great for the kids, too!

I have a family of 4. The wife drags us to Disney every chance she gets, but I love our trips into the Adirondacks, and out to Colorado. In Colorado, there is a lot to see in the Colorado Springs Area. When you are there, you have a lot of stuff to do in close proximity.

Aruba is a great island to go to. Pools and beach for the kids, casinos at night for the adults, easy to get to from the eastern seaboard...

Thailand & the Philippines are the places I keep going back to. Still have not seen all of them though, but getting closer.

Some beaches in the Philippines are just as good if not better than Thailand IMO.

Love especially the Pagudpud beach area https://www.google.com/search?q=pagu...w=1858&bih=941

    Also like Palawan https://www.google.com/search?q=pagu...beach&tbm=isch
