      It's good to know if regulators get serious they can DO something to get dangerous bus lines off the road.

      Every time I see a "crackdown" like this I wonder what the excuse for allowing these buses companies to keep operating without inspections or in spite of deficiencies found in the past.

      It's true of many things - not just buses. The regulations are in place and we assume the inspections are being done and regulations enforced. Then there are accidents/deaths and we find out it was "lightly inspected" to put it kindly. It's not new - we've always been better at passing regulations than we have been at oversight or enforcement.
