Technical Friend Saved Psychoanalyst Bills

A technologically-oriented friend of mine saved a lot of money in psychoanalyst bills by constructing a simple robot. At the aloted time, whenever he says anything, the robot repeats whichever sentence had the most stress in it, then says, "How do you feel about that?," "How long have you felt this way?" and similar questions. When an hour has just about gone by, it says, "Time's just about up. You can reflect on what we've gone over today and let's continue next week, same time."

It reminds me of an actress quite a few years ago who said 'Therapy is expensive; popping bubble wrap is cheap. You decide.' (Can't remember the name.)

But are you serious about that? It was an actual project that was done? It sounds like it could start a business if he can make more for a reasonable cost, and happens to know someone who can put up a site

It might be a bit oddball, but you never know what will catch on enough to have a run.

Totally serious. However, it's already being done...in Japan of course:

Psychology is not that simple... for obvious reasons really. But most importantly because the relationship between the therapist and the patient is VERY important.

It's not just a matter of talking about what's bothering you or what traumatized you, sometimes talking about the problem makes it worse as you are relieving it in your mind over and over again.

A lot of the time is not what you talk about or the questions that you're asked. It's the support. The fact that someone cares and understands you.

lol ... that's hilarious. I imagine that the robot is as efficient as many psychologists. I've known so many people who go to psychs and shrinks and only seem more medicated than well.
