PLEASE HELP: Not really an IM question, but if anybody can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hello...

So, just now, as I turned on my computer, this message flashed over my desktop...

"WARNING: YOUR COMPUTER MAY BE RUNNING A COUNTERFEIT COPY OF WINDOWS. <CLICK HERE> TO GET THE LATEST VERSION".

Has anyone ever seen this warning? I've had this computer since 2010 and this is the first time I got this message. How is it possible I have a "counterfeit copy" of Windows???

I was deciding whether or not to click the button... and then... the message disappeared .

Suggestions? Is this normal?

Thanks.

    Odd, on it is BS!

I went through this sort of crap when my antivirus freebie expired.

There were constant messages popping up saying, your computer has been infected, and will crash, unless you click on our link, and pay full price for our antivirus software.

Or give a free BS scan, so you really get desperate!

I ignored all that crap and calmly got a cheap one, been purring ever since!

I would check your popup blocker settings, or try to get the link for this dodgy warning, so you can stop if from reoccurring!

If you recently downloaded something there could be a sneaky piece of software lurking on your computer, that will bring this message up.
