Wanted: One Horse Drawn Sleigh With Horse Included

Perhaps I should have said Needed rather than Wanted...

Really? It has been snowing nonstop since yesterday afternoon, 1 pm to be exact. They said it would stop at noon today. It didn't. They said they would plow the roads after it quit snowing, they haven't yet. They said the salt wouldn't be effective in these temps, 11 degrees Fahrenheit feeling like 11 below with windchill, the salt isn't.

Later, we're supposed to get more snow in the form of lake effect snow, accumulations dependent upon the snow band patterns...whatever...

I really, really need a horse drawn sleigh and the horse to draw it as I'm running out of hot chocolate, solid chocolate and coffee.

I feel your pain Terra. It started here around 10 last night and isn't suppose to end till tomorrow morning.
Add in some single digit highs during the day.
It's looking like the winters we got here when I was younger.
I just finished shoveling the driveway for the first time today. I figure twice more today and once tomorrow will work.
I haven't shoveled in back of the house where I park. I may do that once today and once tomorrow or just do it once tomorrow, after all I'm only suppose to get 15 to 18 inches
The wind is going to kick up a little later tonight and tomorrow so I'll be dealing with the snow drifts tomorrow and shoveling in around -15 degree temps with the wind chill

By the way when I was little they didn't plow the roads out here. When we came out to spend a weekend we would park at one of the farmers house and he would bring us in on a horse drawn sled. I really wouldn't mind if it was still like that, but I was staying here through the winter.

      Haha, Kurt!

That reminds of me a romantic anniversary gift hubby planned about 10 years ago up in Muskegan, except it turned out to be not so romantic for that exact reason, lol!

But perhaps as cold as it is, it wouldn't be as bad as it was that hot and humid August.

No Yukon, we haven't owned a snowmobile in years and years. We haven't had a snow like this since the blizzard of February, 2008 where we got 22 inches in two days straight. For the past 20 years, we get snow here and it melts a couple of days later and not many high accumulation snows either. These have been very far and few between so in order to snowmobile, we'd have to go on vacation to the upper lower Michigan region or the upper peninsula. And if we're going to vacation in the winter, I want sun, sand and surf.

I guess I've gone wimpy as I've gotten older.

But the memories you've described are the memories of when I was a kid and teenager, yes, what wonderful times those were!

I just finished my second shoveling and feel great. Of course it's a light fluffy kind of snow that you get when it's only 4 outside

Okay, you talked me into it!

Please excuse me while I go snowplowing and pulling people out of ditches with hubby, since he finally got home from work. I've convinced him to teach me how to plow.

But I'll let him do the pulling out of stuck people.

Let me just say that plowing is fun! I love pushing the snow into big piles and slamming into them! But, I'll also add that plowing ain't for sissies either. I'm starting to feel those slams in the back muscles, lol.

            Yikes, Thom! LOL!

We have warmed up to 8, without windchill, as a matter of fact, we're under a windchill advisory because with windchill we're at - 13.

Update: Now they're saying 6 to 12 inches Saturday night through Sunday afternoon! Bring it on!

Just came in for a little break. It's really kind of nice out. The wind stopped earlier and the sun is out.
Tonight though it's going down to -12 and with the wind chill -30.
We're getting that storm Monday, it's also suppose to warm up to 38 Monday so that storm will be a sloppy mess.

I kind of like shoveling my driveway. I look at it as exercise.
I bring in all I need before a storm hits so I can take a little time shoveling. I shovel about 1/3 of the driveway, come in smoke some hash then do another third and repeat till it's done.
That still leaves the back parking area, but after I move my Jeep to the driveway it becomes optional.

We have a very long driveway so it get's plowed. I plowed it for the first time ever the other night.

As for shoveling, the sidewalks, porch, deck and steps need it but it is a losing battle with all of the wind. You start shoveling in the back and work your way to the front and then when you come back to the back, it looks like you haven't done a thing...sigh. I just wear tall boots now, haha!

We have a break today too with sunshine and warming up to a whopping 23 degrees. They're calling it the calm before the storm...literally!

It's cold out here in the West, too - but we're not getting snow. It's dry as heck..........NOT a good thing at all. Makes winter easier but if you guys don't stop hogging all the snow, we're going to be on fire all summer. The Sierra's are bare. You'd think the Californians would be "progressive" enough to understand they need to reforest out there as in yesterday?

I remember those snow days growing up in MI. My Dad, being the school superintendent, was the guy that made the call whether to close the schools or not. I'm sure on a few of those borderline days, he called to close them solely because of the anxious looks on the faces of the two little girls at the breakfast table. In my older teens and early twenties, my friends and I would make calls to decide whose house the snow-in party would be at when the weathermen said a blizzard was headed our way. Couple bottles of booze, bag of weed, and some food and we'd just party together until the snowplows got around to us.

Those were fun times. It's been a lot of years since the sight of two or three feet of snow has excited me.

        Are you kidding me?

We've got 12 inches of new snow on the ground since 6 pm last night and we're going to get another 6 inches over night tonight stopping about 4 am tomorrow morning. At times the snow has been so thick, we got 2 inches per hour.

And if that's not bad enough, an arctic blast is moving in overnight so we will have temps with windchill for the next two days -30's through -40's.

It's warm and raining in New York?

Anyway, been snowplowing all day and have to plow more again.

I'm supposed to open the store tomorrow too and be there at 6:30 am. This oughta be fun, not, lol!

The roads have hardly been touched and many schools are already announcing that they're closed at least through Wednesday because they're saying the secondary roads won't be treated/touched until then.

Plowing is one thing, having to drive to the store in my car is quite another...

That arctic blast is coming here Tues into Weds.
Supposedly we're getting a little snow on Tues after a couple of days of rain.
Basically we'll be a giant ice sculpture on Tues.
New York weather can be strange at times.
Where I'm at will get 6 in of snow while 5 miles from me might get over a foot.
Good luck with those wind chills and cold temps.
I had the drain pipe for the kitchen freeze up on me a couple days ago when we had that first arctic blast hit us.
I never minded the plowing, but hate driving my car in a storm.

Sounds like our winter weather is circling around to what it was like in the late 60's and early 70's again. The media can scream about whatever they want until they're blue in the face...........
