A Cat Named "Imbecile"

Every time I watch this cartoon, the introductory song never fails to make me laugh. It means something like
"Good friend, good friend
Imbecile is my good friend"

The name is so wrong, too. A cat that can do Chinese calligraphy is no imbecile.

Looks like a cheap version of Mulan?

But as you are saying clever cat, pity they are running around with bats terrorizing the Kings, etc!

They should get Eddie Murphy to do a vioceover!

Some words translate funny AND, of course, some take umbrage with the language. And are you actually a NATIVE speaker of chinese?

You never know though. Maybe some other creature affects perception of the cat or some don't appreciate its actions. I mean like FIDO for a dogs name? SERIOUSLY?

No, I am not a native speaker of Mandarin. English is my first language. I have interpreted English-Mandarin/Mandarin-English in the past but I am certainly not a qualified or accredited interpreter,

I'm not even sure I process any language the way most people do, lol. I didn't start talking until I was four, and my first words were in Spanish.

Try calling a person from China "sha gua," see what happens.

Hey thunderbird. I wasn't in any way trying to denigrate you. I was just playing "devils advocate". Some things really are strange, etc...

I assume sha gua means imbecile. Of course, even saying it to a person could be bad. Hey, even a word like du, in german, could be said to animals, kids, even peers, but saying it to a stranger or older person could be insulting. All it is is the familiar form of the pronoun you. So who is to say?
