  • I'm a couple hundred miles north of you. Our forecast is even worse. It's 15 below right now and that's supposed to be the high temperature today. The low is supposed to be -26, and wind chills from -50 to -55.

Is there anyone who lives where it's warm that wants a houseguest for a few days?

    • Rest assured it is a warm icestorm!!!!

So you will freeze to death on the warmer side of freezing!

Why am l defending GW loonies?????

I do live in a warmer loc, but all full here! He, he!

But there us plenty of room in the outback, (temp, have almost reached 50 degrees Celsius) or open oven hot, this week, but l guess the warm ice is to blame?

    • No, apparently, record freezing temp, are caused by world temp, going up?

Or heat being trapped in the oceans, (eventhough they have been there for 15 years while world temp, haven't moved?

But it is inevitable someone from here will explain why l am wrong with a half page of gobbledygook science!

Maybe they can explain how warm ice works! He, he!

Probably need a full page to explain that one?

Darwin, eh, hmmm, l got as far as Cairns, and remember being in an air conditioned plane, and stepping out of that plane at the airport!

It will be like stepping from a fridge into an oven, but you will get used to it!

Just be careful of crocks, and box-gellyfish and especially those nasty cane toads, (Yuck)!

Hopefully you are timing it with the wet season, or you will step into humid torrential rain and closed roads?

  • Once lived in Chicago, got smart and moved to San Diego.
Today I am wearing shorts, have windows open and fans on.
    Around 72 degrees.
  • We got our arctic blast a week or two ago. -26 one night in Central Oregon of all places. It gets cold here, but not THAT cold. The bad cold only lasted a week at least. Now it's normal cold except we had a few days in the high thirties, low forties and all the snow melted. Looking at the sky, I'm thinking we're going to be getting some more snow real soon, though. We have a ski resort up the road so there are a lot of people here that actually get happy about that. The only thing I like about it is that it prevents fires later in the year when it's hot.
  • It was -55 where I live yesterday and there was a 15 min wait at the redbox I went to.

(To put into perspective of how much it bothers us here)

I do wish I had worn gloves and a hat though.

    • It's cold enough to freeze waterfalls here in Michigan.

      Now that's cold!

If you'll remember, I was just there this past summer.

      Ha! Big difference!

    • The last three years here have seen loads of snow and low temperatures. This year it's barely been below freezing. It's currently 7c here which believe me, is as warm as toast for this time of year.

It's -3 here in Virginia which is pretty drastic for us. No snow or ice storms ... just freaking cold. I went out a 4am this morning to check on the chickens. Still alive, all huddled up together. Poor chicks. Brought the dogs in but can't bring 60 chickens in ... :p

    • My friend who lives just over the hill from me is going through a similar situation.
I was talking to him last night and he said his chickens are laying ice cubes
He also has 5 dogs, three Samoyed huskies and two beagles. He said he can't get the huskies to come in or the beagles to go out.
He said the huskies are picking on the goats which look like statues.

    • Sarcastic, drat, l was enjoying myself! He, he!

Although if you put icecubes in the microwave and nuke them, then it might be possible!

But as you have said, it is made up, so that is that!

Play cricket, we play it here, although in Darwin they probably use cane toads?

It does make the cricket bat a bit messy, but you are doing Australia a favour. We will probably give you a gold plated Koala!

That or a shrimp on the barbie, unless it is a total fire ban then it might be shrimp salad?
