Need Help With Website Conversion Question

So I am stumped on this one...I have a 2 part question that I could really use some advice on.

I have a website that sells candy. It is a brick and mortar business but expanded to online sales a couple of years ago. When the last Google updates hit, they decided they didn't like the links that were pointed at it and dropped it off the first page for every term and instead of punishing the site itself, they just removed the links. Now this site was sitting pretty before, but now it is in position #95-99.
I am assuming I will just need to start the link building process over. I was going to use the disavow tool, but Google isnt showing any links there anyway. The links are from article directories, and I have had no success in getting them removed. Anyone face a similar problem and how did you handle it?

Part 2.
Since the Google organic listings were shot and there wasnt much damage I could do anyway. I went ahead and rebuilt the site with a new template and fresher look. Then I started using PPC from Google and Amazon to drive traffic. I get lots of clicks, but rarely a conversion. I am stumped as to the reason. Is the checkout process too complicated? Do they not like entering their CC#? The prices seem to be in line with everyone else but no one is making it to the checkout process.

If someone could run through my site all the way to checkout and let me know your opinion I would greatly appreciate it. At this point I am bewildered. The website is located at The Candy Store Online

Thanks in advance to anyone that will take a few minutes to give me their opinion!
