Do you think wearing a Rolex watch impresses people??? I'm debating getting one. There's a lot of other more trendy brands but most people don't know high end watches. All they know is Rolex. (and maybe a few others) but I found some really nice knockoff rolex watches online and I was debating getting one. I'm not sure, do you think that's a good idea or is that lame?

Just that I know that when you go out and in a lot of situations when you meet new people, people wonder about that stuff. Like if they see you're wearing a Rolex watch they might get a good impression about you, like that this person is successful. And I mean I don't really care if it's a real one. Just as long as it looks nice. Besides the fakes ones look just as nice as the real ones now a days. What do you think???

  • First off - I don't wear watches so wouldn't know a rolex if someone rubbed my face in one. Second - if I'm going to be impressed by something, it's going to have to be beautiful or artsy, and that can be cheap stuff as well as spendy - it just has to be aesthetically pleasing.

I can respect a taste for quality, and if you can afford quality, great. I have some quality stuff that's very old and I still wear it.....because I like it. That's why I bought it.

As far as bling just to impress people? Sports cars make me do the RCA dog head crank. I don't understand spending piles of bucks for something with clearance so low you have to worry about making it over the average speed bump. Clothes? Some of the designer stuff I've seen is so ugly I'd be ashamed to wear it no matter whose damned name is on it.

I don't get impressed over bling. I'm not impressed just because someone has bucks and can flash it. I'm impressed when someone is smart in a subject I'm interested in, or has a look or style that I consider appealing. When someone is a jerk, a watch or sports car doesn't go far in hiding the fact they're a jerk. It just makes them an insecure, loud jerk. When they aren't a jerk - they don't need bling to be impressive.

  • I am going to guess that 99% of the people that you come across wont even notice the watch that you are wearing and the 1% that do are the 1% you don't want to associate yourself with....

Be yourself, don't buy material object to impress others, do and wear what makes YOU happy!

    • The only way a Rolex would impress me was if it was pink and perhaps sparkly. But I would only be impressed by the color and sparkles, I wouldn't have a clue whether it was a Rolex or a Timex.

Impress rather with your knowledge, skills, expertise, and manners. I'm sure that those impressions will take you much further in life than a Rolex, or even a Rolex knock-off.

    • ya you got a good point. Well I ended up buying one. I hope it arrives. It was only 97bucks. There pretty realistic now a days though from what I seen by the photos. here's an image of the watch I ordered, you can tell me what you think. I had a nice bell n ross knock off but it got washed so it's crap now. That was a nice one too actually. I just think when I go on a date maybe it says something if I'm wearing a nice watch. Ya I know it shouldn't matter. And realistically deep down I don't care that much. But I think what it is is the markeing first impression side. And there is a bit too it, you'd be surprised. Lets face it most people have lost there soul in this age of consumerizm. If the sheeple see a little bling they're somehow impressed by that. It's sad how dumb society has become It's like size of bank account first, body soul and spirit second.

I don't know, I could be wrong but I think it's a nice looking watch. I'm in my 30's so I don't want that super-bling look. I just want more of a everyday look which I think this one sort of has, yet has a little bit of "hmmm green??" like gets people looking. One of them is real one of them is fake apparently. I'm not sure which is which. Just suppose to be the same watch I ordered. What do you think?

Not that there's anything wrong with buying something nice, so long as it serves a *meaningful* purpose. But if you're buying something only to impress others, then you're doing it for all the wrong reasons.

If you want to truly impress people, you do it with your character. NOT what you wear / drive / live in.

    • I like nice things surely as much as other people do. That said, I honestly doubt I would go out of my way to save up enough to buy one.

The last watch I got a few years ago was a Timex (or similar brand) and any time I wear it, everyone compliments it. Crystals are on the outside of the watch case, and the face is probably a rather nice plastic mother of pearl. For $12 (on sale) and tax, people who see it seem impressed. Well, impressed only a little bit less than the one with the abalone face and band that went bad, so it needed replaced.

The priciest and most expensive up-to-date items or rare and valuable antique pieces just seem to scream "noveau rich." It's been an oft-repeated observation of mine that the older rich are quite well known to wear good things, very often worn out and battered beyond recognition, thrift stores would have rejected their donations!

Be careful the kind of message you want to send. A Rolex might be appropriate for your purposes, but don't choose it just because you want it if it really isn't appropriate.
    • I know what you mean, but still I've had wealth and I've had poverty. And trust me, living the high life is "way better" than living in poverty! Anyone who tells you otherwise is stupid. Unless you're a monk who's taken a vow of poverty then generally speaking as humans we're trying to better ourselves. The bible says "3 servants were given talents....bla bla bla". We're suppose to better what's been given to us. Of course that doesn't mean just money or material stuff. But value is just a reflection of money "oftne times". Not always but often. So if someone has nice things I don't think that's all just low self esteem or ego. There's nothign wrong with nice things if you're buying them out of confidence of and not lack of it. Trust me, I've had money and no money and money and stuff is better and funner.
  • A very expensive wrist watch.
  • I once owned several rolex watches, genuine ones I bought for around $2000 each. I bought them for recreation and because I enjoyed spending money. The best part is they were worth on the way up actually only slightly more than they were on the way down. I am assuming with a name like aces high you will understand what I mean....
  • Hate to tell you this, but for $97 the watch is most likely either a replica or stolen. A used submariner like the one you posted the pic of is almost $9,000 on Google Shopping. Used. Why else would the one you bought be so cheap?

    • no way, you think? I thought for sure for 97 dollars I'd be getting a real one? So you're actaully telling me it's a fake one? Oh nooo rats ha ha
  • Up until about 2002, I had an Omega watch. Not exactly luxury, but sort of upper middle-class (if you get my drift). I had that for about 15 years, before it died.

I needed a watch in a hurry, so I went to K-Mart and bought a Lorus for $14.95, to cover me until I could get a replacement Omega or Seiko (staying in the upper-middle class range for a couple of hundred dollars).

The Lorus is still on my wrist now.

It's waterproof, so I wear it in the shower or when I go swimming and it loses about 40 seconds a year.

Now that is what I call impressive.

If (or when) the Lorus dies, I'd have no qualms at all about getting another one, even if, because of inflation, the price for a similar watch is as high as $30.

First I have to say I think Rolex watches are butt ugly. Big, gaudy, heavy pieces of metal.

That being said, I am not impressed by superficial people who think that "stuff" makes the person, and buying a "knockoff" to pretend it's the real thing to impress superficial people is just pathetic. I wouldn't do it if I were you.

How good, honest, trustworthy and so many other qualities are far more important than bling.

    • Well it's like wine or coffee or whiskey. Most people don't like it when they first try it. It's a refined taste, is the way I look at it. But in this case no one has to know it's actually "instant coffee". ha ha. Actually I just like knockoff stuff. If I had endless money pouring in maybe I would buy real stuff but I'm not into wasting money on stuff that's probably gonna get dinged up or lost within a short period of time anyway. Like I bought a Bell and Ross watch and sure enough it was in my pocket and someone washed the article of clothing by accident and ruined it. So if I had paid 5k for it, it would have been just a waste. I guess I feel like I'm beating the system when I can get the same product for cheap.
  • I think you are getting a good deal if you are getting a genuine Swiss designed ETA movement. ETA movements can be found in watches cost upwards of $10000 if they are skeletonized or used as a base for complications such as a perpetual calender. It is more likely that you will get a Chinese designed and made movement.

This is an old article which explains why Rolex is held in such poor esteem by watch buffs

The Rolex Explorer Ref. 14270 - Part 1 - TimeZone

"The anomalies of the Rolex Explorer make it difficult to neatly summarize a personal opinion. For me, the only intriguing aspect of this watch is that a movement so lacking is basic workmanship is capable of being so accurately timed. This is, no doubt, a product of the thickness (and thus permissible loose tolerances) of the movement, and the use of computer-timed balance/spring assemblies. For the person for whom accuracy of rate in a mechanical watch is the only criterion in buying a watch, and for whom value-for-the-dollar is of little concern, the Explorer might be a choice. In the current watch market, the poor quality of the movement--and relatively good quality of the case and dial--suggests that this watch should retail in the $600 to $800 range.

For those who would insist on a mechanical watch, there are innumerable other choices in the price range of the Explorer, almost any of which would provide a movement of much better quality. There are also many watches at a quarter or less of the price of the Rolex that exhibit comparable or better workmanship and quality. In fact, I Dial, close upthink it would be difficult to find another current production watch, at any price over a few hundred dollars, as deficient in basic workmanship of the mechanicals as the Explorer."

  • My personal preference is for Mont Blanc... After receiving a
Mont Blanc pen as a gift from my wife on my first birthday after
we were married, I fell in love with the brand. Most of what they
produce is high quality, which I appreciate, and stylish, which I
also appreciate... And quite frankly, I couldn't give a flaying rat's ass
who likes it or doesn't-- My wife liked it, and that's what I care about.

There are certainly many "second-handers" out there (forgive the pun!)
who live in the heads of others, and whose self-worth depends on the
impressions they can make in others... But if you have a knee-jerk reaction
to think that everyone wearing a Rolex is that kind of person, you may
    want to reconsider.

The reality is that most people who enjoy a fine cigar after a good
meal are not pretentious assholes. They just enjoy quality. And they know
that networking with other people who have reached a certain level
of success can be a very positive thing for them.

Really, haven't we all known businesses that were actually crappy,
but looked good, and so they were successful? And those that were
actually really great, but looked like bums, so they failed?

A lot of people that you see wearing a Rolex and driving a Mercedes
are just as comfortable pushing their lawnmower in a pair of jeans
    and a T-Shirt.

And a lot of people who spend most of their time in a pair of jeans
and a T-Shirt might outta put on a nice suit and go try on a Rolex.
Don't buy it, just go try a few on... Don't worry, you won't make you
shallow or superficial. But maybe you'll see things from a new POV?

Zenith Academy Tourbillon Chronograph Men's Automatic Watch 18-1260-4005-02-C506: Watches: Amazon.com

Here is a review from the product page:

"Sure you could spend a mere 10-20 thousand on a watch that tells you the time of day. It also tells people that your a penny pinching poor loser that needs to try hard in life and get a real job. This watch is not just about knowing what time it is, If I wanted to know what time it was I would just ask my servant. Actually, anyone who's anyone at birth gets a small computer built into their head that project information, everything from emails, current heart rate to how long lines are for the Super Man ride at 6 flags (Currently its 43 minutes at this exact moment...but I wouldn't have to wait in line as us upper crust folds always get cut-sies)."
  • It is impressive only if the person wearing that watch has the job to back it up with. If it's an average office worker wearing one, then it doesn't look congruent. If you want to wear a rolex simply to impress people, then that's being a 'try hard' and comes off as "you purchased this watch because their is nothing interesting about you." You don't need a watch to impress people, all they need to see is your personality.
  • I think that nothing matter which watch you wear to the people.
  • When I was single one of my buddies dad owned one of the world's largest Pharma compnaies and a girl I knew parents have high end luxury clothing shops across the world as well as hotels. (won't name the company names, but they are among the world's most famous brands)

Both were very humble, did not show off in the slightest.

They didn't talk about their money, what they owned or tried to impress people.

There was something vastly different in the way they handled themselves, than someone else. I honestly couldn't tell you what kind of watch they wore, and they certainly did not ever bring it up. Maybe that is why they liked me.

Most people try to fit in with them by mentioning their new rolex, car etc.

Trust me on this one, they hate people like that. You are basically acting in a way you assume they are like to impress them, but are really insulting them by thinking that is how they are.(fake and superficial for one)

So yeah, when I see someone show off I am not impressed. I know they don't fit into the crowd they are trying to fake that they belong too.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I'm sure that they impress people who are
easily impressed by "things." But to those
that have their eyes focused on other
agendas of substance, it won't mean much.

Get one because of the quality of the product.

...not to impress people. You'll never win.

    • So true. Another good reason is because of all the high end brands of luxury watches, Rolex watches are the ones that retain the most of their original value after purchasing them. (Another thing to consider in the event that you ever want to sell your watch) Of course this is only if you buy a genuine Rolex. lol

I can tell you this from extensive experience. A woman that you have to try to impress, by being something other than what you really are?

  • Someone may be impressed for the first few minutes, but if your speech did not follow along with that impression, it wouldn't matter too much.

As Abraham Lincoln said, 'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.'

So anyone who is impressed will usually find out shortly after you open your mouth and start talking.

I think women are much more likely to look at what a person is wearing (sometimes from head to toe) than men. Whereas men are much more likely to look at what car a person drives.

    • I want to answer this, because it's a fantasy theme of movies.

First, a multi-billionaire wouldn't try to make someone think they are a janitor.

Think about that. Think of who you could be comfortable with.

If you fell in love with a poor janitor, and found out that he was a billionaire? well, now your entire life is going to be unfamiliar, uncomfortable, strange.

You wouldn't talk about the same subjects. Your friends would be gone.
You would live in a home that wouldn't fit your self image.

You would be miserable. I know that it sounds weird, but people that win millions and millions of dollars in the lottery, are miserable.
They blow the money on vacations that they tire of. They buy boats that they take out once, and tire of. They buy homes that are in neighborhoods that are filled with people that are not like them. Your friends now hound you for "loans", and every relative has a hair brained scheme that is the next "Apple". And if you turn them down for a loan, you're a jerk.

Lying is lying. If a lady falls in love with a janitor, she has an image of who that man is. And shattering that image, isn't going to end well. Of course, the genders can be reversed. It was just an example.

Sure they could buy a Timex or a Toyota Camry. But, they won't. And the reason is they don't get the emotion from those objects.

When they are seen in a Rolex and drive a Mercedes-Benz they have a perception of status, wealth and prestige that those other objects don't give them.

It's the same for some women who purchase a $4000 Gucci handbag when a $40 purse would likely be sufficient.

  • Do you think wearing a Rolex watch impresses people???
its one of way to make others impress to people.but not the most important way to get it.
i have read one of articles, and the below are part of some to share with you.
    Ways to Impress Others:

    1. Be Generous. Regularly give your time, energy, and money to others without expecting anything in return. The giving of your life to another is one of the most impressive things you can ever do.

    2. Be Optimistic. Always, always, always focus on the good aspects of people and situations. Sometimes you have to look harder than others, but you'll always be glad you did.

    3. Develop Your Strengths. I am impressed by good singers, authors, writers, architects, speakers, CEO's, computer programmers, mothers, and athletes (just to name a few). There is only one thing they all have in common: They discovered their strengths and developed them with great discipline. Do the same with your unique giftedness and temperament. And regardless of the profession you choose, you will impress.

    4. Be Modest. You are special, unique, and gifted. And the less you make an effort to tell everyone that, the more they will notice.

    5. Be Content. A contented life is enjoyable, desirable, and admirable. Those who don't have it, desire it. And are impressed with those who have.

    6. Don't Live to Impress. Live to Inspire. Give up your desire to impress everyone you meet. But never give up your desire to inspire everyone you meet.

Stop trying to impress others with the things that you own and begin inspiring them by the way you live your life.
  • I don't really like watches. I never wear one. I don't ever look to see if anyone is wearing a watch or not. If I do happen to notice it though, it doesn't matter to me the type or brand. That is just my opinion though. I know others will have a different opinion on this, and brands might mean something to them.
  • When I was younger, I used to think that having branded clothing made me look awesome and I would get loads of chicks. I'm now 22 (nearly 23) and have already come to realise what most people my age dont realise.

Women (or dudes) are not really impressed by bling or fancy shit unless you can back it up with a good personality and some charm.

A lot of people on my estate will have expensive clothes but then cant pay there bills or take the girls they are trying to chase out for a movie or even for a coffee!

I find that wearing clean clothes that fit nicely and go well together, coupled with some wit does better than ostentatious clothing or jewelry.

Of course I suppose it all depends on the type of women you are trying to attract
