Yes, It's Another Dove Ad About Body Image. And It's Really Great.

Instagram and its brethren surround young women with images of their (mostly) unretouched peers. One of the teenagers in the video drives that point home by saying, "I don't look like the people in the magazines. I'm not blonde. I'm not super tall or super skinny. But that doesn't mean I'm not beautiful."
The other striking part of the film was how deeply the daughters were affected by their mothers' perceptions of beauty... "When you hear her talk about her insecurities, you focus on your own."
Self-deprecation is something that comes naturally to many women (it certainly comes naturally to me), but negative self-talk from mothers is a scourge that parents should work hard to eradicate.
This is a very, very good video. I encourage you to enjoy it.

Dove's new "Selfie" short: Premieres at Sundance, makes us think about moms, daughters, and body image.

Well, to say that YOU can redefine YOUR beauty is VERY misleading. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If they don't consider you attractive, and you don't want to change what appearance may cause that impression, you have to present some OTHER aspect that will force them to overlook your appearance. That doesn't make you any prettier physically though.

Braces are TRANSITORY! You can't let THAT define you. There are MANY types of glasses. As for rosy cheeks? She wasn't like a tomato. And HEY, losing some weight, or trying to improve other aspects is a good idea.

That's a good video for anyone, not just young girls. Nice find, Joe.

Vanity is a good thing because it encourages us to take good care of ourselves. What is bad for us is to compare ourselves to someone else when considering our own beauty.

Models don't have perfect features - in fact some of them are quite flawed. What they have in common is radiant health and confidence. People run to plastic surgeons and have the very features that make them memorable, make them noticeable in a crowd, "fixed", yet they never come off as beautiful despite the money/surgery - because they still have that sick look to them - and an insecure look that goes with it. It's sad. Really just sad.
