It is kind of cool chatting with people who, for whatever reasons, I probably wouldn't cross paths with in my "real" life. I find it hard to find a way to phrase it accurately, since the Internet is real. Conversations here are real. Interaction is actually occurring here. Anyway, in the physical world, never mind location, such factors as appearance, economic situation, age, health, disabilities, cultural factors restrict interaction in ways that Internet does not.

...heart to heart and mind to mind, perhaps? Without most of the usual social trappings that bias us.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

True, you also get past the tourist crap and understand the world a little better!

I dealt with a Polish programmer at one time and chatted to him on Skype quite a lot!

I learn't how Poland is pretty stuffed up, and that he would go to Germany, etc whenever he could just to get out of his depressing country.

I also learnt that tensions between races, still occur, eventhough BS heads of state would never mention it!

But l agree, talking to someone on the other side of the planet is still pretty cool.

I also dealt with a programmer in India, and chatted on Skype!

And occasionally let him take over my Laptop to fix software issues.

The only thing better than this, is making money as well, online!

Hmm... how do we know we're really talking to you then?

One of my favorite things about it is that you can find TONS of like-minded people and actually meet them in real life.
