Nice but you cant beat a good Indian meal.

    Indian:

    Chicken Tika Balti Madras (hot)
    Pilau Rice
Kema Nan Bread. (Stuffed with tandoori minced meat)
    Onion baji's

    One of my favorite combinations

    ---------------------

British Roast lamb dinner (Second choice):

British boneless lamb roast dinner with roast potatoes, peas and carrots, lashings of bisto gravy and of course, mint sauce (not the jelly)

Curry fish head is nice, and also I like curry with rice.

Both of those sound nice, for the record, I'd be very happy to tuck into everything mentioned so far.

Out of interest, do you get British lamb and Bisto in America? I had that last Sunday and it was lovely.

I must admit, I'm a bit partial to a nicely done Beef Wellington...

Being a Brit living in Texas I miss a lot of British dishes. Lamb is expensive too but make the effort to buy some and make the dish. There are British sections too (small) in some big stores and some small British stores around but all expensive. The lamb is probably from New Zealand in both countries come to think of it but still think of a roast dinner like described a British dish. So much beef in the US, lamb is a minority meat.

The bisto (granules) you can buy here but when I go back to the UK I stock up on bisto, marmite and a few other things.

Indian places, good ones difficult to find In TX. The UK has a plethora of them of course!

You're such a tart Dan. Now when can I pop over for dinner? You might just have inspired my Saturday meal.

That makes more sense. I thought your food taste was a bit similar to mine. A lot of the lamb here is New Zealand too, very nice though. Frankly, my Sundays are incomplete, especially in winter, without a roast of some description.

Toast wouldn't be the same without Marmite either! As for the Indian food, I can't get enough of it. We get a lot of Thai restaurants serving in the kitchens of pubs now too. Some pubs stopped serving food and the kitchens were being wasted, local Thai families came along and offered them deals to allow them to cook for customers and offer takeaways at a lowered rent. There are quite a few now and it makes a change from town microwaved pub grub when you find one.

If you're ever over here in the future we can go to a pub and have a beer and a nice roast.

By the way David, I just thanked your OP because I think this thread has given me some superb ideas for the next few weeks food, and I'm not having a barbecue this summer without some of those ribs in your photo.

I would genuinely attempt to eat all of that.

Does "tart" mean something different in jolly ol' England?

Come over anytime. I make a delicious lamb souvlaki, by the way. We'll sip some scotch, guzzle some good beer, and maybe find a way to get arrested. All in the name of international relations, mind you.

It's a friendly comical term for someone. It's a strange one. Example - You me and Claude May go to the beach and buy some chips to wander along and eat while we exchange pleasantries. I may have salt and vinegar on mine, CLaude may have tomato ketchup. You may have lashings of caviar and shavings of expensive black truffle on yours.

It's at that point, Claude and I would say "oh Dan, you're such a tart". It's certainly not a jam eating thingy or anything rude.

Lamb, scotch, beer and mischief sounds like just the ticket! International relations would come full circle if this took place. I could become the English and much older version of Justin Bieber.

Well, that makes much more sense. Over here, a tart is a pastry or a slut.

Second, never eat French fries with Claude. He likes to suck the salt off before eating the fries. The visual is disconcerting at best.

If you're the new Bieber, can I be your Little Twist? Did I get that reference right and, if so, should I just go and put a bullet in my head?

Such is the oddness of my version of English, tart can be both of those as well. Depends on who or what it's directed at. You can now use it to refer to anyone.

Well if you're right Dan, the reference to popping a bullet in your brain is completely understandable.

We could get drunk, find something to get arrested for, then just pretend we're Justin? Or Mylie Cyrus. I can only tell them apart when her tongues sticking out, which thankfully is permanently.

A real S. Philly Cheesesteak made with very thinly sliced rib eye, loaded with garlic, fried onions and sharp provolone on a crusty role from Sarcones on 9th Street. I am NOT referring to the crap that you get at Pat's and Geno's. That's fine if you like horse meat or you're a tourist. Additionally, if you put Cheez Whiz on a cheesesteak, there is no hope for you. That's like putting ketchup on filet mignon.

    Cheers. - Frank

My absolute favorites are simple - almost all the things Kurt mentioned - plus the sandwich basket from a little family-owned diner (third or fourth generation) in Indiana.

Right now I want a rice bowl with pork from Chipotle's - but there's no Chipotle's around here. Bummer.

An old timey favorite is toast made with salt rising bread - I order the bread online from a bakery in Pennsylvania. Good stuff.

Is this a new year thing - being a gast?

It's a fair cop and all I can say in my defence is that a spammer dug up this thread, I made a snarky reply to the spammer and reported the spam and in a movement like greased lightning and with mega streamlined efficiency the mods immediately removed the offending post, well after a day or two, and I am left looking like a dickwad for bumping old threads.

I do have to say that I wear the dickwad look very well, like the style guru that I am.

There's a happy wok down the road from me that has been using the same Chinese cook/chef for the last 20 years. Most people drive by this fast-food hole in the wall without realizing the treasure stored within it's walls. - About a decade ago this cook introduced me to his own version of General Tso's chicken. He said that it's a cure all, and he wasn't lying. I now order it any time I'm feeling under the weather, and it has never failed to make me feel better...

Sushi! Never met a piece of sushi I didn't like. Eels, salmon, any of it.

Not sure I'd like horse sashimi, though, if you can even find it anywhere anymore.

I like a asian curry with peanut sauce veggies meat rice hot.

Lately I like minced beef fried in its own fat meaning no butter or oil added.

    Used to like grilled cheese.

    Like fruit cups with Pineapples.

The combination of something healthy that tastes good.

Quest bars are crazy, ate just one thus far but really "clean" fitness food and great taste and satisfying. Im not buying them however as one is 2.5 Euro, and Im so big I can easily eat 3 for a meal.

Used to love 4%fat potatoe fries, baked in the oven no fat added, with ketchup and spread over it a bunch of low fat cheese.
