Twitter: Anyone know what 'Re-tweet' Means??

Just came across this feature on someone's blog:

Anyone know what it actually does - I "retweeted" and couldn't see anything on my Twitter...

    Retweeting means re-posting another person's tweet and giving them
    credit for that tweet. This has a double-effect: you give good content to
    your followers and you connect with the original tweeter by appearing in
    their list of replies.
    There's a very good article on mashable (one of the best blogs on social media) on how to ReTweet the right way, i can't post the link, because I'm net to this forum and don't have enough posts yet...

    Unfortunately, the twitter-website doesn't support one-click retweeting, you have to do it manually by copy/paste.

      I've always thought putting "twitter" and "good content" into one sentence was a bit of a stretch. Most of the tweets I've seen didn't bear repeating.

      Guess retweet is like word of mouth (or gossip)...he said, she said...

        It always depends on who you are following - you have to select the right people to get the interesting tweets!

    I'm a twitter newbie too and I'm still at a loss at what those prefixes within the twitter's twits mean , e.g. @xxxxx, #xxx, etc.

      @xxxx simply means your message is being directed towards that person/user
