Healthcare.gov - was that mainly created for the self employed and entrepreneurs?

I saw something that said that website gave people the opportunity to take charge of their own health care instead of relying just on their employer's health care plans.

No, it's for everyone that doesn't have health insurance. I haven't personally gotten insurance through them, but I did help a friend fill out his info. Basically you put your info in and depending on how much you make they let you know your options.

It's also referred to by many as the Obama Care website.

You would have to put a gun to my head to make me even visit that site. Some states are in the process of illegalizing it (one already has, but can't remember which - somewhere in the south) and others are following suit. There are some frightening reports coming from WA state where it was enacted and people are being denied care now. Better get in touch with what is going on with that one state by state before you do something extremely rash that guarantees compromise of your personal information just to check it out on their site.

      Folks -

While I totally agree....I have to wonder what the point of the OP's question is. He doesn't have a country listed - how could anyone talk to him about insurance options?

And what does car insurance have to do with being self employed?

I do agree, I was looking at the post suspiciously like it was possibly made to spam his link, but some people do want to know about health insurance options and I've seen people post about it in the past.

Also to everyone else above. I didn't post the healthcare.gov link above as a personal recommendation, I posted it because it is a valid link for some people and can help them. The person I helped fill out his information on that website qualified for free health insurance, if it wasn't for that website he would have gone another year without health insurance and he is over 60 years old with cataracts and arthritis.

Some people that make little money will benefit from the site (or their state equivalent). Others that make decent money are probably better off looking elsewhere.

They apparently STILL don't have the "back end" done!!!!!!!!!! For those that don't know, the job of the front end is to give you the "warm fuzzies", tell you their hype, and get info and money from you. That is *******IT*******! In short, to YOU, it is near WORTHLESS! So what is the BACK end for? Getting the insurance, etc....

Just think! Late last month, they said that as much as 70% of the backend was NOT working! The promises, claims, and all for last october were about the FRONT END!

Let's look at amazon, as an example. The FRONT END is the nice website they have. Technically, to you, it its WORTHLESS! You use the front end ONLY to trigger the BACK END which pays for the product, gets it ordered, arranges shipping, etc... and amazon does all that stuff you never really see just so you can get what you REALLY wanted, the package you ordered.

I agree -but then the site would be working properly and the faults with the program as a whole would be even more visible

I'm self-employed and got insurance with Kaiser Permanente WHILE I still had insurance from my previous employer. Now that ObamaCare is up you can apply for the government health care program as mentioned in one of the above posts. Otherwise, getting accepted by most private health care programs will be a challenge if you do not currently have coverage. It's even harder if you have any pre-existing health conditions (I didn't). For other insurances (auto etc.) it will be easier as long as you can make the payments/show the provider that you can make the payments.

Outside of areas like california where apparently the major insurance companies pulled out, you COULD have gotten private insurance. NO PROBLEM! The problem? PRICE! well, NOW, thanks to the HIGHER prices, the price looks a LOT better, in comparison.
