Starting from square 1-Making a Career Online

Hello All!
I am the dreaded newbie that has been creeping here for years, I have read e-books, threads and watched videos but have found it hard to know what to invest my time in.

What I have: Smarts, time, effort, heavy computer literacy and realistic expectations.

Interests: Baking, fashion, frugality, home-remedies, wedding planning, public speaking.

I am a recruiter as my career and would like to build income that is realistic! I have been telecommuting for years making money for other people and now I want to do it for myself. I can dedicate 20-30 hours a week to start with the hopes of going full time making $3,500-5k a month. Just like my "real" job.

What I don't have: A reliable "non-scam" guide to follow, a mentor, or a good idea of where to begin.

I'm great at recruiting, have set up some basic jewelry websites (no traffic of course), am a decent writer and REALLY want to cut ties to a schedule. I have thought about trying YouTube but something about putting myself out there is a little scary.

With all of my skills, can someone point me in the direction of where its easiest for a beginner to start? Even if its just research... I know these posts are likely frequent but I'm not looking to get rich quick without the efforts, I'm educated, professional and ready to begin a new journey!

        Wow! Cynical!

        There are ways of making money online from decent people – such as Chris Farrell, Kelly Felix, Rob Cornish, – which have a better than average chance of succeeding for someone who puts their back into it. And also which offer excellent support through a well attended forum.

        Whereas buying a scammy product from a scummy marketer with no backup is a fail.

        My path to success was certainly not lonely it was accompanied by a a lot of friendly and helpful people. Maybe your story was different, but is not inevitable.

        I advise as I see it. Basically, I think a positive idea is to find a decent money making programme – such as those I have mentioned above – then unsubscribe from everything else and just focus on one programme you have chosen.

        This is much more likely to give you success.

          I would hate to admit how much money I have poured into the online marketing community and the newest "shiny thing" over the past 2 years. I've wasted a lot of money, but I've learned a ton of things. Namely... all the ways how not to do online marketing.

          Never the less, I'm still thankful for everything I have learned through my mistakes. I've been able to find some really good nuggets in all of it.

          While I haven't heard of all the people that have been recommended, just a few of them, the one that I know is top notch is Rob Cornish: GainHigherGround.com. He'll answer all your questions... no matter how many you have. Plus his training is excellent and affordable as well. If you don't know where to start, I'd start with him.

          Here's a bit of advice. Regardless of who you go with, in the beginning stick with one person, learn from them, IMPLEMENT what they teach and see where it goes. The worst thing you can do is hop from thing to thing and person to person... like I did. By doing that I totally succeeded in making nothing on the internet.

          It was only when I finally stopping hopping around and started implementing that I began to grow and make an income.

    I recommend you read "4Hour Workweek" and spend some time finding a passion and an idea and an interest. Basically find a passion and a market and you have a business Read the book and come back with any questions on how to implement the ideas. Good luck.

    I know just how you feel; you seem to be pretty level-headed even though you may be a bit lost!

    My aimless swimming and lurking in the IM ocean of info finally ended when I joined a coaching program. Very highly recommended, if you can afford it.

    (Better than spending it on a thousand WSOs and doing nothing with them.)

    First of all, be prepared to enjoy the journey...the ups, downs, challenges, obstacles, successes. It's a rollercoaster ride that's a mix of emotional, mental, and strategic/tactical ups and downs.

    With that said, that's what makes it fun and rewarding. Most people fail at those first obstacles (which there absolutely will be)...but that only leaves more opportunity for the tenacious and dedicated...like you seem to be!!

    My advice, take time to research the many areas of IM...there are many. I personally love the digital media space because you can automate a good portion of the system, which is what most people are really after...a lifestyle business. There are many niches and many ways to pursue digital media, but it's my favorite "path" for sure.

    Either way, research, then pick a path, then dedicate time and effort into mastering it. Most paths work, it's a matter of getting it to work.

    There is a piece here I see the others have missed. You Have or Had jewelry websites? If they are still up, why not start there. Its sounds like the block here is that you need traffic? GET TRAFFIC. Start with FB, or pinterest. Develop free channels of traffic to that or those sites.

    Basically once you understand "Traffic", the rest can be easy. In your case start with that. Make sure those sites have places to sign up for a newsletter. Send your newsletter articles on home-remedy jewelry cleaners and the like. obviously include offers of Jewelry.

    Literally for $100 and a FB ad campaign you could have traffic tomorrow. It is THAT easy.

    I would take the advice of savidge4 and concentrate on your jewlery website and just start to learn about getting traffic as we all no if you have NO traffic you have NO business traffic is the key.
