The number is still small... That brings the total number to 2,999 for all of 2013. The previous record high for a year was 1,781 set in 2011. It's a 221% increase over the 932 who left in 2012.
And foreign banks are sufficiently worried about keeping the IRS happy that many simply do not want American account holders. Americans abroad can be pariahs shunned by banks for daily banking activities.

      Those numbers are actually only a small part of a bigger picture.

      20 years ago only a handful of people left the US to retire overseas. Now millions are doing it.

      It's not final yet but they just voted to raise the debt ceiling again today.

      That's just not goo business.

    I am actually surprised that this number is so small. There are pregnant mothers who purposefully went to the US to give birth so their babies could become American citizens. After that, they take the baby home to bring up. Now these babies are grown up, they found that they are eligible to pay Worldwide US tax even though they have hardly set foot in the US. I know a few people who are in that situation and they are not sure what to do.
