Hey warriors,

I'm planning to start my own web designing services and I'm confused:confused: of which server to buy. I'm going to do hosting services for the clients too. Please suggest me a good server where i can host my clients websites.

Thanks

I would not buy any server. Get a Reseller account with a reputable hosting company and go from there. I don't know if your location would impact that strategy but there you go.

The webhosting service I would recommend is Hostnine. With one reseller account, you can use a large number of different servers around the world in the USA, UK, Netherlands and Singapore.

    Hello sham,

thanks. i was expecting some more in-detail.

    For example:
    i was thinking whether to

Go for "http://www.hostgator.com/shared" business plan as shown in that link ?
    or
Go for "http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated" dedicated server ?

Because i'm going to offer my clients for new web design along with maintenance and hosting services. Hosting services makes me to host their domain along with their fiees in my own server.

I hope you understand my situation now.

    Looking forward for your thoughts.

I was with Hostgator for years but won't recommend them now because of an acute deterioration in service. This is ever since they were bought by EIG. Although Hostnine is another EIG company, their service has actually improved over time. For most intents and purposes, a reseller account would be enough for your clients.

You only need more specialized hosting such as VPS or a dedicated server when you have sites that take up a lot of resources e.g. large forums, sites with very high traffic, complicated scripts etc. That is when your webhoster may threaten to terminate your shared hosting or reseller account.

I would start with a reseller account and scale things up as required. There is actually a lot of knowledge and hassle involved in managing a VPS or dedicated server. I have had up to 3 dedicated servers before and it is often difficult to justify the cost and time involved.

Maybe just lease a dedicated server, I would recommend one in Canada as a lot of power is purchased from the USA from there and last one I leased never had any downtime.
I have never had a US server that does not have downtime!! :p

Consider sharing a server for awhile or even a cloud service offered by a company such as rackspace may also be an option whereby your info is stored on many servers always guaranteeing reliable delivery of your services and hosting.

That is the strategy behind a reseller account. You can start with a low-cost account, $24.95 per month and charge your clients whatever you want for hosting. You keep ALL of the income from hosting fees minus the $24.95 per month.

This plan lets you start your design and hosting business without buying equipment. Should you find, in a few months, that type of business is not for you, you are only out $24.95 per month.

      Let's say you charge your clients $25.00 per month for hosting;

      10 hosting clients @ $25.00 = $250 per month.

$250 minus $24.95 you pay for a reseller account = $225.05 per month profit.

        Hey joe,
Thanks for explaining me in detail. It was very easy for me to understand about the reseller hosting with your points. After putting a lot of thinking i have came to a concluding point. I'm going for a reseller hosting from Hostgator.

I'm going to target on small business clients and start-up companies. I'm quiet confused of which size to start with the reseller hosting.

        for example:

"http://www.hostgator.com/resellers" which one will be the best for me ?

        Any suggestions ?
