Australia has the blues, and I'm glad...

It's true, there are a lot of good blues blues/rock artists from Australia, and they're well worth listening too. Here's a few...

An interesting thing about David Hole is that all his slide work is done with this hand over the top of the neck rather than from underneath like everyone else does.

I don't know much about music, but I know what I like. I liked the one by Ash Grundwald a lot.

Ummm ...... Embarrassing admission. I'm from Australia, grew up in the bluesy rural types of areas, Qld etc. Never heard of any of these artists.
And besides, there's only Two types of music in this world ..... Country .. and Western!

Sal - Glad you like at least one of them. You might like some of his other songs too. A lot of them have the same kind of rhythmic feel to them.

David - I've known about David Hole for years. He's toured the US, or my part of it anyway, so I first saw him in a bar while I was imbibing in a few rather tasty brews. I came across Ash about a year ago, but the other two are fairly new to me. I "discovered" both one day recently when I was browsing YT for new music.

Australia is well known for a lot of music and many of the other things they do so well, however, there has never been a better song than this beauty, played to me many years ago just after I'd arrived on a trip.

I liked it so much I tipped the cabbie $50.

      Long live Chris Franklin!

From memory, you and I have discussed Dave Hole a few times in the OT forum. He's from my home town (Perth), which for some reason (don't ask me why) is known as the Blues capital of the Southern Hemisphere.

When I first started going to pubs back in the late 70's, there was a choice of two types of bands to see:

      1) Cover bands - doing anything from classic rock to 50s/60s stuff to Top 40 hits of the day, or

      2) Blues bands.

Here's one from one of the old crowd, Chain (they were formed in the 60's).

They're still doing the traps, and there's quite a bit of them on YouTube if you're interested.

Don't get me wrong - I think they are all good. They just don't play the type of music that rocks me. None of them would be irritating to me to listen to, though, if that is what someone else was playing. Please don't ever think that when I say I don't like some form of music that I'm confused about the skill level of the musician.

Hey, I've got a lot simpler things to be confused about. I'll get back to you when I've found clarity with them. :p

Harper played at the Little Bear Saloon a lot when I worked there.
(probably still does - nice guy - parties like, well, a musician)
He played the didgeridoo at my dog that had a nose tumor.
There's supposed to be a healing aspect to the
didgeridoo - I guess the vibration. My dog just looked
    puzzled.

I don't think this happens in any other genre - styles named after a city or region:
Chicago Blues style, Perth Blues, Texas Blues, Memphis Blues...

First time I've ever seen a didgeridoo played in a blues song. Now THAT is different. Thanks, Dan.

Yeah, we talked about David Hole at least once. I'll check out more songs by Chain. I didn't care for the beginning of that, but when the blues part kicked in, good stuff. Worth checking out for sure.

And then there are other defining styles as well... jump blues, soul blues, swamp blues, and so forth.
