Hey guys,

I figured that this group is so diverse and so popular, I'll ask away.

I've always had a problem of using the restroom constantly since I was a kid. It seems like it has progressively gone worse over the course of years. I urinate at least every 30-40 minutes. And I would wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. But now, it's gotten worse where I now have severe bowel movements. I'm at the point where once I eat, I can't hold it in any more. Could this be anxiety? Because I act up most of the time when I'm OUTSIDE the house. Anyways, it's caused a dent to my relationship. Why? Because I can't do much with my girlfriend and I because I have the fear of using the restroom. She went camping and I couldn't go because I knew that it would take an hour just to drive up the mountains and what if there was no restroom? Does that make sense? But I USED to do all these things in the past

Or...she wants to go hiking, but I can't hike for more than 40 minutes because I have to urinate or use the toilet for something else. Or....when we watch a movie or a show I need to sit in the corner so I can get up and use the restroom..

This has gotten very depressing, and I guess I wanted to lay this out in discussion hoping that any of you guys have gotten through this problem before? It's been BAD for the past year. The past 25 years (I'm 27 now), I would have to use the restroom once or twice a day (feces). But now it's every time I eat, or whenever I feel "trapped" in a territory where I can't find a restroom such as ....TRAFFIC on the freeway...or waiting in line for a ride....or waiting in line for something. And this would result in me sometimes going 4-8 times and sometimes there's nothing coming out but my stomach is upsetting.

I've gotten to the doctors, and the doctor prescribed me to all kind of anxiety medicines. I know it takes weeks or even months for it to kick in, but THAT hasn't even helped.

I'm trying to think perhaps my diet is bad? I'm like scared to eat anything now but I have to of course so I can live . I want to get my life back...I want to enjoy the simple things such as walking out in the park without worrying about using the restroom.. or going to a faraway hike, or just to do ANYTHING.

All I do now is use the computer stay home, go to work, and go anywhere where it's not far...or knowing that there are restrooms nearby.

Thanks guys....

I know this is personal and a bit too much information but I'm really just trying to find answers everywhere..

My niece's significant other has the same problem, but he's in full blown crone's disease. Once they moved in together, she started cooking for him and he's now having very few episodes.

First off - get yourself OFF of any food that is GMO, and cut out the gluten. The mix of those two things are lethal. Stop drinking anything like soda -- go completely natural with your food. You may want to look up the paleo diet and at least base your intake on that...any meat should be organic. You might wanna clean out your kidneys with some lemon juice and dandelion, and your liver with milk thistle.

If you want to talk to a guy who is being helped by this regime, I can ask my niece and him if I can give you one of their emails to talk to them. He was never able to find a doctor that helped one iota, but the new diet is changing his world.

I hadn't noticed your statement about the other, but crone's is certainly possible there. It could also be lactose intolerance, a parasite, allergy, or even some kind of illness that may go away on its own. If it is like diarrhea, it could be overdosing on things like vitamin C or magnesium. It could also be a liver or gall bladder problem.

PM me you email and I'll get it to them. You might be best off getting both her side of what foods she prepares (she says he can eat more than he realizes yet - they've only been together a year or two), and he will have first hand experience to tell you what helps.

Well, it could be a number of things.

You COULD have diabetes melittus(sp?), AKA DIABETES, BUT, by the time you were an adult, I think you would be BOUND to find out about it.

There IS a disease called diabetes INSIPIDUS. It apparently only has TWO symptoms, You drink VERY often, and urinate very often: Diabetes insipidus: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia

Of course, this COULD be a kidney problem, but that could have been found earlier.
It COULD be a bladder problem.

The bladder problem hasn't gotten me depressed but it's definitely the OTHER issue (bowel control etc). That's the one that's FAR too embarrassing for me

    Two suggestions:

    1) Go to a local, small or family run health food store - usually they have someone there that you can talk to and I would ask if they know of any Naturopathic Doctors they would recommend. Try to get 2 or more names. Call them and ask if you can ask them some questions before actually making an appointment - if any of them say no, or give you any type of negative feedback about needing a paid appointment before you can ask just some basic questions, go with the one that is most open to answering your questions.

    2) Visit Welcome | Home | Frontpage - I know that it might sound a bit hokey at first but the military is actually employing EFT as a method for helping soldiers suffering from PTSD - I can tell you from personal experience that it has helped my wife who had a problem with the urination part of the equation about 11 years ago after a horrendous experience in an operating room - she could barely go 20-30 minute without going to the bathroom - at one point she was in a medical Dr's office 3 times in one week because she was also losing weight badly as she never weighed over 100 lb's, she dropped to 79 lbs.

Using a Naturopathic Doctor who employed a system similar to EFT, she eliminated her issue within two months.

We both use EFT from time to time for various issues and why it works, I have no idea but for us it has.

    Hope this helps.

You need to talk to your doctor first off. Also speak to a dietician and see what they can suggest as far as your diet. It does NOT sound like diabetes....I am diabetic and an expert as I have also written over 1000 articles on the subject. There could be many reasons but your doctor is the first place to start...and NOW, not later, so that you can get some serious help.

AGAIN, to be fair. People saying diabetes mean diabetes mellitus. That is VERY different from the lesser known diabetes insipidus. The urinating part DOES sound like diabetes insipidus, though only a doctor could tell you for sure. Diabetes insipidus apparently does NOTHING with blood sugar. Diabetes insipidus: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia

Central diabetes insipidus can be caused by damage to the hypothalamus or pituitary gland as a result of:

      Head injury
      Infection
Loss of blood supply to the gland
      Surgery
      Tumor
There is also a form of central diabetes insipidus that runs in families.

Nephrogenic DI involves a defect in the parts of the kidneys that reabsorb water back into the bloodstream. It occurs less often than central DI. Nephrogenic DI may occur as an inherited disorder in which male children receive the abnormal gene that causes the disease from their mothers.

Nephrogenic DI may also be caused by:

Certain drugs (such as lithium, amphotericin B, and demeclocycline)
High levels of calcium in the body (hypercalcemia)
Kidney disease (such as polycystic kidney disease)
      Symptoms
      Excessive thirst
      May be intense or uncontrollable
May involve a craving for ice water
      Excessive urine volume
      Exams and Tests
      MRI of the head
      Urinalysis
      Urine output
      Treatment
The cause of the underlying condition should be treated when possible.
If I were you, I probably WOULD get a little test kit(maybe $25-$35) and test fasting glucose and maybe 2hrs after a big meal. You probably aren't really affected by it, but being so cheap, quick, and useful, you might as well. Besides, they say that 30% that have diabetes DON'T KNOW IT!

You can try what heysal suggests OR, if you find something in the above article, IT may help you. ONE suggestion made is that, if you take lithium, it may be lithium induced DI. If so, you might be able to discontinue the medication and cure the problem.

If what heysal suggests doesn't help, go to a doctor. It is ALSO possible, and logically likely, that you have 2 or more problems. The DI DOES fully explain your urination, but not the more recent symptoms. Crone's explains the more recent stuff, but NOT the urinating. I think BOTH could be tied to the liver.

So HEY, even a DOCTOR would speak against diagnosing you in this venue!

I cannot believe people are making tentative diagnoses and recommending treatments for this. I know the tendnecy is to try to help but this is a medical problem and you need to know what's causing it.

The OP is in the US and I'm to believe the only thing a doctor has done is prescribe anxiety meds? Surely there have been specialists and tests and probiotics, etc???

Meds could be part of the problem - but you need to see a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatment. Have tests been done to rule out the various diseases and conditions that can cause this?

Sadly enough - yes. I am from the US. And I've visited the doctor 3 times. All he suggests is to up the dosage of pills, and keep coming back if there's anything different. Maybe I'll go to a different doctor....

I have never been tested. I never had a colonoscopy either.

Sorry - but I can't imagine any doctor treating this more than once and not suggesting basic tests - and a colonoscopy is basic. I can't imagine having such symptoms and not insisting a doctor find out why it's happening.

No worries. I mean I just checked the ratings of my current doctor. Dr. Chok P. Wan, MD - Long Beach, CA - Internal Medicine | Healthgrades.com

A colonoscopy will likely NOT explain or help the urination problem. Being 27, a colonoscopy is often something people would not think of.

When it's nutritionally based, a doctor can give you every damned test on the market, but it's a very rare doctor who has any education in nutrition. If you can find a natureopath that isn't just a cocktail pusher, they have. The average nurse has far more education in nutrition than a doctor. Nutrition is not part of a doctor's college curriculum.
The only thing a lot of them know about the drugs they prescribe is what the sales literature from the drug company, too. People swallow anything a dr gives them without understanding they need to talk to a pharmacist about anything they're prescribed.

People worship doctors without understanding zip about exactly what their education consists of. When seeing a doctor isn't helping, you have to look elsewhere.

My recommendation... for what it's worth.

              1) Find different doctor.
              2) Blood panel.
              3) Colonoscopy.

Let me suggest that you use the phone to screen doctors. This will save you a lot of time, aggravation and money.

                CERTAINLY! You SHOULD do that!

                2) Blood panel.
I think that is premature since there really ISN'T such a thing, so discuss it wit the new doctor AFTER discussing all the symptoms, etc... a "BASIC" panel, that you usually get doesn't test nearly that much.

                3) Colonoscopy.
I think it is premature, but it is something that may help the later symptoms.

Let me suggest that you use the phone to screen doctors. This will save you a lot of time, aggravation and money.
Another bit of good advice. Even some "specialists" only SUBspecialize. You may have a common problem that a "specialist" won't even look at. Of course, a lot of DOCTORS may not talk to you. Sometimes even talking with a NURSE can give you clarification as to whether they will even TRY to help you.

Given YOUR circumstance, maybe you should try to get a few appointments with different doctors. If an earlier doctor seems good, you can simply cancel the later appointments.

My wife kept having health problems, she went to 3 different doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. The first two doctors were useless as tree stumps & wouldn't order any test. The 3rd doctor ordered blood test & also found that it was her gallbladder that was causing the problem. She had her gallbladder removed & the surgeon came out to tell us he was very surprised her gallbladder hadn't ruptured long before she had the surgery (it was that bad).

My point is, some doctors suck. If they're not helping you within a month move on to find a doctor that will help you.

Yeah, doctors won't even give you a blood test for the stuff they CAN! If they did, they would probably have to take 10+ vials of blood, would charge you over like $2000(for the tests alone), etc... But you would ONLY get it done if you SPECIFICALLY asked for each test, and the doctor allowed it. Insurance likely wouldn't cover it.

And most doctors REALLY just want to get you out of their office. I have to wonder how bad Chok is, because you have to spend VERY little time to be on a par with most.

In reference to what yukon said, I was given a clean bill of health after a "complete physical" and about 2 months later ended up dying in an emergency room! SERIOUSLY, the doctors gave me 5 days to live, TOPS! It was a 13hour long tag team type open heart operation. The KICKER? if the "doctor" that gave me the "complete physical" did things properly(a simple blood pressure/pulse test that is MANY DECADES old), he could have detected I was at risk and given a drug to prevent the problem. Ironically, many places use electronic gadgets to do this, and didn't think to build the intelligence into them until a few years ago. So most DO IT WRONG!

Years later, I went to a cardiologist and HE checked me the proper way, interestingly. If only I had HIM as a doctor. Ironically, I thought the "complete physical" was a joke from the get go, because it was NOTHING like the complete physical I had once to attend one school. Maybe they figured the potential exertion might be too much or something, but they actually demanded that all students get a complete physical.

Anyway, maybe you should start looking up symptoms and trying to find things to exclude. Doctors DO often fail!

Of course, try to find a doctor. It would be hard to find a specialist without knowing what it is. An enterologist could MAYBE help you with the LATEST symptom. Maybe you would luck out, and he or she has enough knowledge to figure out the rest. Maybe a nephrologist could help you with your primary symptom. The MOST common failure that can cause what you originally described is that the kidneys fail to do one of their primary jobs, which is to reclaim water. But that could be caused by a LOT of things. In DI, it is hormonal. In DM, it is likely because sugar is released and it is hygroscopic. It could happen if too much protein is released. It could also be a kidney problem of some sort. Of course, BOTH could be due to an allergy.

    So WHO KNOWS?

I am a qualified doctor but I am not familiar with the specialties that your symptoms fall under. I cannot think of anything single disease entity that could tie your urinary and bowel symptoms except of a psychological nature e.g. anxiety.

However, I would recommend that you see a gastro-instestinal specialist. As a minimum, I think you need to have part of your colon examined. For example, a polyp in your rectum could cause a persistent feeling of wanting to defecate.

I would also recommend that you try using an enaema. If you have constipation, then it should allow you to pass faeces quickly. If not, then the chances are that there are no faeces there to pass in the first place.

That sounds like it could be related to intestinal flora fauna issues as most digestive problems are. I would suggest rule out diabetes, cancer, other potential causes and go see a naturopath if you can afford it.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a medical professional in any way, shape, or form. It would be wisest to go see one. Try ER: it's more likely to be free or cheaper and the younger ones working as interns in hospitals might be more privy to the latest information on diseases. Wow a TON of wonderful posts. Thanks guys. I know it's a touchy subject but I'm at that point in my life where I'm reaching out to everyone and NOT just doctors. And HOPEFULLY, I do find specialists here as well and not just online marketers .

Yeah....it's not normal of using the toilet (not urination) 4+ times a day...and always feeling like it needs to come out whenever I'm out in public. And it's not normal that I can't leave the house UNTIL I use the restroom. It's not normal that I can't HOLD it at all? I have friends that tell me they got to use the restroom..but they can HOLD IT and actually GO TO SLEEP and THEN go the next day?! I can't do that.

I want to experience what you all experience. The simple things in life. You know...going out to the beach and actually laying in the middle of the sand and NOT close to a stinky restroom. I want to drive up the mountains and see the view of the world...
Heck..I want to TRAVEL the world. But how can I if I can't even sit on a plane knowing that I Have to use the restroom non stop?

I want to at least drive for more than 1 hour straight without stopping all the time and using the restroom. I want to watch a movie at the theatres while sitting with my friends in the MIDDLE of the row instead of me sitting in the corner seat alone.

I want to go to the bars, the clubs without waiting in line to use the restroom and spend most of my time there. I want to try out all kinds of foods without thinking about where the nearest restroom is before taking a bite.

I want to wait in line to see my favorite celebrity, or look at the new release of an item? Or how about standing in front row seats to watch my favorite band perform BUT I can't because obviously I know in-between that I have to use the restroom so I have to be in the WORST area possible but the BEST area to use the restroom right away.

Is this all psychological? Am I psyching myself out?!

I know this forum is meant for us making $$ and all being successful but at THIS point in MY Life...the only thing that is successful is MY HEALTH. The $$ will come I have no doubt. But How do I enjoy that $$ if I'm limited to do ANYTHING?

I have insurance by the way..

Anyways...Thanks guys. This is so depressing but I got to stay positive.
