Going on holiday, where should I go?

Hey folks

I live in the UK and I'm planning a 4-day trip to a European destination with two of my friends.

Ideally I want a city break with a good beach nearby. I was thinking Naples in Italy, but I hear it's a very dysfunctional city with pickpockets and lots of crime in general. Shame because I've read about Naples and Vesuvius and the scenery sounds wonderful.

Do you know of a good website where I can look at ratings for good holiday destinations? Or maybe there's a destination you can recommend?

Thanks

You're obviously not one of those people that daydreams about (and plans) their future vacations years in advance. Might I suggest:

    San Sebastián - Lonely Planet

Lol, who's got the time to think about holidays?

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out.

With an answer like that, I'm astonished that you even have time for a vacation!

Man, I've been working like a crazy nutcase these past 3.5 years doing IM full time. Not giving myself time to work out, eat healthy, to go out and enjoy myself, to take part in self development, make new friends, etc. Just shut myself in my room and worked.

Income's a bit better now, and I think it's about high time I let myself start enjoying life, just a little

Have you ever been to the area of Oberamergau (sp?), and Garmish, Germany? They are awesome. Garmish houses Hitlers underground base, and between Garmis and Oberamergau, which is where the passion plays are held once a decade, is Ludwigberg's summer castle, which is phenomenal. Behind it is a tea house that was in one of the world fairs. He liked it so he bought it. And behind that there's a concealed entrance to a cave with a grotto and a gold boat shaped like a swan. Next, in Oberamergau there is a church. From the outside it's just your average adobe church with the onion domed spire on it. On the inside it's a fantasy world. Murials on the ceiling - garlands of roses and leaves sculptured into the wall/celing edges, the leaves are leafed in gold. In the front is a glass coffin with the bones, still jeweled and dressed, of a Bishop or some such. In the Zugspites mountains you can find quartz crystals and such if you're looking for a more outdoorsy experience. The buildings in town have murals painted on some of them, and they have that quaint architecture with the wooden window boxes and flowers. The restaurants are quality, and were at least, inexpensive. Hotel accommodations are pleasant. The area is Bavaria at its finest. I preferred it to Munich.

        Caans. Swimwear optional.

LOL - I didn't even see the line about the beach.

I haven't been to Naples in over 30 years, so it could be different now, but when I was there it was a dirty place. By that I mean there were rats everywhere, and they dumped raw sewage in the ocean. I wouldn't swim there.

Like I say though, it could be different now.
