I notice Google Chrome is winning. That's what I've been using after I had some trouble with Internet Explorer.

It depends on what I am doing and which one is working the best at the time. (Every browser can have temporary hiccups.)

    In general I find:
    * IE the safest from viruses and malware.
    * Chrome the fastest and the fewest crashes.
    * Firefox used to be the best but I haven't used it in years since it turned into garbage almost overnight. I can't honestly say if it has improved or not.

This is just wrong. Completely wrong. IE is the most vulnerable to viruses, and easiest to sniff information from. I always recommend never using IE, unless you use old software which is dependent on it, in which case never log into your bank etc with it.

That is what I often see posted from people that hate IE or have not really researched it. First let me say that I don't think one browser is ever the safest for every minute of the day. New attacks are being made all the time and ANY browser can miss something. That is why I posted "in general".

In the last three years I have had three things get through and all three times were when I was using Chrome. I have never had anything get through when I was using IE and I use it 70-80% of the time. This is very anecdotal of course and may be the complete opposite of other people's experience. From my experience IE used to be the worst until the last few years.

About once a year I search for sites that have done some current testing and thrown malicious stuff at each browser.

The latest NSSLabs browser protection test showed:
        • IE = 99.96%
        • Chrome = 83.16%
        • Safari = 10.15%
        • Firefox = 9.92%
        • Opera = 1.87%
        Just my .02 cents.

I have 3 years experience as a network administrator and I have performed the tests myself and seen first hand the results.

I'm not saying that everytime you use IE you are screwed, I'm saying that IE is absolutely not the most secure browser.

Many people hate IE because its a terrible, terrible browser for many reasons.

I'm sure I could Google and find articles that support my argument as well. I have done tests myself and found that IE is 100% not the most secure browser.

You definitely have more knowledge and experience than I do. I would also agree there are likely articles and test to support your view.

I may have missed it but which browser do you use the most?

I use Chrome. I have found it to be much faster, more reliable, easier to install add-ons and it's just a cleaner design. Also, it's one of the browsers that - when I tested it at least, didn't give information away to viruses.

Chrome win's it for me everytime. I avoid IE at all costs. Firefox is also good but it's less popular and more clunky.

I think it depends on how you use the browser, where you use the browser, what other software programs you have running, and probably some other things. Point is, I think "results" are individualized to a large degree.

For example, for you Chrome is the fastest and has the fewest crashes. For me, Chrome crashes far more than any other browser (I use IE, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera). For me, it's also the slowest on database driven sites like online newspapers and almost painfully slow on many blogs. It works best on YouTube though . . . go figure.

Chrome all the way... hands down.
Internet explorer... is a dying breed.
Firefox is like a sailor without compass... there is a new Firefox updates everyday.
Safari... never heard of it... they should keep running it on those $$$$$ Mac machines.

I actually use Firefox, just because I like it the best, but I have to admit that Chrome is superior - never experience crashes on Chrome, while they happen every now and then using Firefox.

I hadn't heard of Maxthon yet.
Opera is also an amazing browser, but I last used it a year ago, so I don't know what they are up to now (just didn't bother to install another browser on my current computer).

Which browser is best for IM?

    None.

None of them are designed specifically for IM. They're all for general surfing the web.

The question makes as much sense as which colour hair should you have to become an IM'er, or what shoes should you wear when managing your IM business.
