Which Antivirus do you use?

malbytes, it does a great job and has a small processor footprint... i use to install it on the computers for my companies clients, never had a complaint.

After trying a variety of software over the years, these days I stick to Microsoft Security Essentials. It's effective and it's not as "bloated" as many others. It just works... what you see is what you get.

I have use Avast free version. i just want to say my opinion. Basically i feel very happy to using free antivirus Aast. I have already increase my subscription time 1 year. After 1 year i hope i will again buy it's product.. it works very good for me.

I use Vipre and have done for a few years now. It's got a small footprint, fantastic detection rates and low false positive counts. They also have a good multi license deal so I can protect all the PC's in the home without it breaking the bank.

I am also a fan of Eset but their licensing costs are prohibitive, but if I only had 1 or 2 machines I'd use them.

Norton & Mcafee are bloated and slow systems down too much, they also have a terrible rate of false positives.

Heck, I must have had just about every antivirus and security suite going over the years. But for the past few all I've used is Microsoft Security Essentials (or Windows Defender), supplemented by an occasional once-over with MalwareBytes.

Have seldom had a problem with this arrangement. And you know what else? I don't care what the benchmarks say: it's had the smallest detectable footprint of any antivirus I've used - not just in terms of resource-drain but overall intrusiveness.

I've seen a lot of users praise "false alarms" as a good sign. Better to err on the side of caution, and all. But I reckon they're lured into a false sense of security. Some of the leading commercial security apps are terribly poorly designed, slow, cumbersome and look worse than a baboon's arse. You wonder if they're even half as effective as they claim and how many reviewers are in their pay.

I suppose the largely useless bells and whistles some of them come riddled with must be seen to do something if the subscription costs are to be justified, especially when there are perfectly adequate free alternatives.

Not that they really need shills, mind, when the parasites seem to have managed to worm their way into the factory image of just about every major computer manufacturer out there (to say nothing of their apparent efforts, at least in the past, to prevent a clean uninstallation and the use of competitors' products).

I've used AVG for the last 14 years. Ever since I was a computer tech. I love their customer service. If I get something that their product doesn't yet fix I just have to contact them, send them a file and they'll write something within a couple days to beat it into submission. Usually it only takes 24 hours to get a patch fixing it.
There is no other anti-virus provider I know of with that practice.

I hate to say it, but Norton and McAfee are crap. They actually cause computer problems. When I was a tech I would get calls and their symptoms were solved by a simple uninstallation of Norton or McAfee. I've seen SO MANY problems caused by those two my first step anytime my family or friends get a new computer is to uninstall it and install AVG.

Just cause it came with your computer doesn't mean it's good. It means they paid your computer manufacturer to add it.

agreed - i had both of these in the past and they both let virus's in

Not sure if there is any truth to it - but I was told by a friend that kids that write viruses target Norton and McAfee as they are the 2 biggest Anti virus companies

I have used webroot for the last 2-3 years and think they do a far superior job

Avast definitely. It updates well, not much problem so far except that it sometimes freezes up when you turn down the shields.

Tried norton antivirus which came from when I bought my laptop but it heavily deteriorates my bandwidth speed. It consistently uses it all up.

Well it depends of what type of personal computer you are using. If your using a PC, I would recommend Kaspersky Internet Security, and if your using a Mac, I'd recommend using either a firewall such as Hands Off! or Little Snitch to monitor incoming and outgoing network traffic.

First I used Quick heal antivirus . It was paid version. I was very happy with its service.
After 1 year subscription I THOUGHT OF USING another antivirus program. My brother was using norton antivirus but its virus scan result was not good. So now I AM USING FREE avast antivirus. Though it is better but it slows down speed. For me QUICK HEAL ANTIVIRUS is better.

I use ESET security. It is good and the features that comes with it is great especially for laptop users as there is a feature for anti theft. Also with ESET, you can definitely check the sources of possible viruses. Any antivirus can do that but ESET is light and it doesnt interfere with common PC tasks only when you run a scan it has some lags especially for those with many files.
