I don't do affiliate stuff so I obviously don't use affiliate links in my sig. Twice now my signature has been changed to "Please do not use affiliate links in signature."

What gives? Is my definition of an affiliate link different from the boards?
To my knowledge and affiliate link is a link where I get paid to have people click?

    SIGNATURE FILE RULES

    (1) Maximum length of sig file is 5 lines which includes any blank lines used for spaces.

    (2) You are only permitted 1 color in your sig file, this can be any color so long as it's black (hyper links can be blue as they come up this way on the board)

    (3) Sig files may only be written in the normal standard font size.

    (4) You may bold or italicize but that's it.

    (5) No Affiliate Links Allowed - Promote Your Own Domain/s Only. It's either this or we have to cut out sig files altogether which we do not want to do.

    (6) Anyone Caught Promoting The Same Site/Offer Will Be Deleted. Program owners are telling their members to come here and make posts to promote their offer in their sig files. This has caused tons of useless messages to be posted and it is clogging up the forum. Anyone caught doing this will have to be removed. This is not an ad forum - it is a discussion forum.

We have no problem with someone linking to their WSO within their sig.

Due to certain people trying to find a loophole I needed to add yet another edit. Please do not try to get around these rules by getting your own domain name and simply redirecting it to an affiliate program. You Will Be Removed From Here When Caught.

A simple way to stay within this rule is this:

Promote Your Own Real Web Site And Do Not Listen To Anyone Who Tells You To Come Here Just To Promote A Site They Created For You.
Where you linking to a site that didn't belong to you?

It's my company site. I was linking the database of registry errors instead of the usual page that has the "Buy the product" set up.

It's your "company site" - but is it your company and do you own that website?

In your profile you indicate you are Director of Public Relations - maybe that's the problem. Just a guess.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

          Erin,

If it looked like an affiliate link, it will have been reported for that.

It's also possible someone reported it if they believe you're not the owner. That is a strict interpretation of the rules, and one where some judgement calls are argued by members who want things done strictly. This isn't the sort of situation that rule was created for, so the mods don't always land on the literal side of things.

Your definition of an affiliate link is incorrect! An affiliate link or referral link is any link that is tagged with an id so that you get credit for the referral.

Then my link is definitely not an affiliate link.

ALSO, an affiliate link is one that will credit you for a commission. It does NOT necessarily have to have an ID. Some sites detect the referring page or site, and use THAT to credit you. Some have a special page set up to credit you. Some ask the visitor to enter a special code assigned to the referrer.

Using a parameter passed via GET and/or POST IS the most common, but is NOT the only type.
