Right now as I sit here all I can do is smile. For multiple reasons.

$3.2 Billion IS FREAKING HUGE!!!!

Incase you haven't heard... Apple could be closing in on a deal with Monster and Beats By Dre for ... yes you guessed it... $3.2 Billion Dollars.

You can read more about the actual deal on Forbes.com ---> HERE

I just wanted to express how freakin inspirational this is to me. With me being a music producer and a big fan of Hip Hop and the Urban culture, it's just amazing to see someone like Dr. Dre excel like this.

I have no doubts in my mind that ANYTHING is possible. This man.. Dr. Dre came up from the hard streets of Compton.. hanging with the Gangsters and the Thugs... but he pushed himself to 1st be the Michael Jordan of music production in the Hip Hop Music Industry... and now he's killing other markets.

Seeing that a deal like this is even possible is just amazing.

DO YOU GUYS FEEL EMPOWERED OR WHAT?!!!

A bit of a head scratcher.

Beats By Dre is all marketing and no technology. In fact they didn't even make their own headphons until last year- they outsourced the manufacturing.

Beats often finish near the bottom of comparison reviews with other headphones.

They are way over priced compared to their quality. The appeal of the headphones is based on marketing and trendy popularity- not quality of the product.

It is curious why Apple purchased Beats for so much when better manufacturers and brands could be had for much less.

It goes to show you sell the sizzle not the steak...

I aint saying its not inspirational and more power to him but unless he's cutting me a check OR theres an actionable plan in there I can reproduce I'll reserve my ecstatic excitement and just say again - good for him (and back to my work and plan)

My understanding is they are buying their flailing music service not the headphone part of the company

Assuming the deal goes through...they're buying market share. The product can always be improved if need be. Say what you want about the Beats products and services, but the bottom line is they have what Apple wants & Apple has piles of cash at it's disposal.

I can see where the OP is coming from.

There's a lot producers that I know personally as well that have gone through hell and back. They come from literally nothing, and Dr. Dre was one of them.

To hear that he sold his "beats" for 3.2 billion is definitely an inspiration for a lot of guys in music production.

Read the history of Dre getting in w/ Beats and how a massive company sorta stole Beats from Monster w/ one or two lines in a contract.

On the marketing side, it was pretty cool though. Dre put Beats in videos, on the red carpets, on athletes, etc. before they sold them.

    Sell the dream, baby.

Definitely a big deal, Dre has made a big impact on the music industry and to this date is one of the top producers. He has made a name for himself, and as a result his headphones (Which I actually have) were an instant hit.
