    This is even earlier
It was also the first and only instrumental banned from radio.
This version is from the 70's but the original was recorded in 1958
    It's a crime he isn't better know.
One of the more influential guitarist of the Fifties, Link Wray introduced the distorted fuzz-tone sound on his million selling single. "Rumble." Link Wray is credited with having more influence than his track record might indicate. Pete Townshend of the Who has referred to him as "the king." Ray has been called the godfather of the guitar power chord and the father of heavy metal rock. In fact, he might be this and more.

You Sir are correct. Is he still alive? I think I remember hearing that he died, but I could be wrong.

No you're right he did die, but his music didn't.
It still amazes me how many guitar players haven't heard of him.

Oh Wow, the Animals - still exciting after all these years. They sure were civilized little mod boys. I have always loved them and still do.

LinkWray - wow - a unique innovator for sure. I can't believe he wasn't more popular than he was.

I don't know why that article doesn't mention how almost every 'surfer rock' song totally sounds like a LinkWray cover - (and I do love surfer music) -- but heavy metal???

              Thanks again for the memories...
