Godaddy Domain Purchase problem

I have found a good Expired Domain at godaddy and immediately registered and bought the domain. I was eager to redirect the domain to my other site only to see that the domain is NOT showing in "My domains" even after few hours of purchase. However the details of my purchase are showing in Receipt and also the domain is not listed anymore for sales. I tried to call their customer care number in India, the recorded message informed that average waiting time for them to answer a call is 12 minutes !!.

I tried to hold them online, but could not beyond more than 5 minutes as it is non stop ads about their products and wonderful customer service !!!. Can anyone please clarify whether this is normal for any sites bought through "Buy now" or "Auction" to show up after a long delay or anything else needs to be done from my end. Even small companies has live chat support. But I am amazed that biggest hosting company could not afford that or they don't want to support for small issues like this ?

  • Try looking at the whois for the domain itself. You might have purchased a domain before its recapture(?) period expired. You ALSO might have simply preordered.

If it is the first, it may be a few weeks. If it is the second, it may be never. In EITHER case, the whois will tell you.

    Hi,

Good luck on your domain purchase. While I have not purchased any auctioned or expired domain names from them I have purchased several hundred "regular" domain names from GoDaddy and have never had an issue.

The one thing that I wanted to mention is every time that I have called technical support during busy periods over the past few years they have offered a call back so I do not have a long wait on hold. When they offer the option during busy periods all you need to do is input your phone number and say your name and they call you back at that number in a timely fashion.

  • I bought an expired domain that was listed in the auction section. I think all Godaddy expired domains are available there for a certain period of time.

It did take 2-3 days (forget how long) for it to show in my account.

May want to be patient and check again with support if it doesn't show soon.

    • That IS another thing. If THEY are the previous registrar of the domain name, they can renew it during a special period for you. You will get it if it is not renewed before the deletion. If they AREN'T the previous registrar, they CAN'T, and you may NEVER get it!

And by registrar, I mean FIRST TIER!!!!!! So go daddy and wild west and enom, etc.... This does NOT apply to "registrars" that register THROUGH go daddy, wild west, enom, etc...

  • This is update to my original post. Now I got the domain delivered. I got the hold of customer care number when the response time was showing as 4 minutes in the website. The customer care person was good and communicative and promptly answered all my doubts. They have informed that it is normal for websites bought in auctions or back ordered domains to be delivered to our end and average time taken is around 3 weeks. So it was well worth the wait and now I have got the domain with lot of internal pages with PR 6 and PR 5 for just 20 $, which is not possible elsewhere.

  • Some domain names can be transferred within a few hours but many take a few days because the previous registrar has to release them before they can be transferred to your current registrar. My guess is if the domain name was previously registered with Godaddy, the transfer is much faster.
