Of course there are more facets to consider, but I might be interested in something along these lines.

In a report to the rights council in 2012, de Schutter said a similar accord on food should include taxing unhealthy products, regulating food high in saturated fats, salt and sugar, and "cracking down on junk food advertising."

Except we should be eating natural, saturated fats like butter and coconut oil. Taxing them and making everyone consume more processed oils will add to the already disastrous health consequences happening today as a result of decades of wrong nutritional advice. Regulating sugar, etc, fine, but how do we know who or what to trust when it comes to deciding what a healthy diet is?

Over here Lynn, the big corporate food companies would be buying exemptions for their products.
The FDA is already considering over regulating organic farming to the point where it will put organic farms out of business.
But then Monsanto already controls the FDA, USDA, and EPA, here.

Way to detailed for me, at least to start with.

Let's start with a 10% sales tax on ALL restaurant meals.

        Why?
In fact why tax any food items good or bad?
Why should we pay the government to eat?

More importantly to me is what the hell concern is it of YOURS (rhetorical 'yours') what I eat??? Get your damned nose out of my business. If I want to eat pop tarts, twinkies, and hot dogs all day, washed down with soda pop, it's not your concern.

Nope, they only care about the money they can gain from poor people and food.

Haven't you heard of the largest corporation in the world? It's called USA Inc.

Sorry, Terra. This is not the largest corp. That would be World Bank - you know, the corporation that Woodroe Wilson installed us in and that ALL of our federal taxes go straight to funding.

Ha! Yeah, this I know, but when I was typing, it just seemed weird to say the largest corporation in the US is the US so I exaggerated for effect.

I should have known you would call me on it! :p

So instead of regulating the use of poison to make foods - they are going to charge us more to be poisoned? Kewl. Just way kewl. We need to drop these dirtbags off as in yesterday.

Why would anyone support the gubmint creating more laws-rules-regs about the choices people make so they can make more from taxes? I say let people make their own choices, but give them information on what they are eating so they can make informed choices.

Taxing lousy food choices is not the answer. Put the nutrition and consequences information out there so people know. There are times I might just want some junk food and I don't need some freaking nanny stealing my money in extra taxes just because I ate some. I'm not stupid, I normally watch what I buy and how I cook pretty closely.

Instead, how about telling us what pesticides were used on what was grown so we can avoid the bad stuff--put some effort in doing better inspections to prevent recalls? Etc.
