Boys are defective girls?

WOW! I knew some things were going this way, but it is apparently going TOO far. I guess they have changed from the stories they had when I was a kid that either sex could like to ones generally only girls are likely to like. And they have gone too far with not letting boys be boys. SOME claim the only sexual differences are MENTAL, based on upbringing. It really makes me wonder what those saying that are like!


I have never really been into comics. But I don't have books like little women either. I have few fiction books, and lots of non fiction. When I refer to fiction here, like "ransom", it is generally because I happened to see it on TV. As for fiction books? I have fire starter. The protagonist there that was even heroic, happened to be a little girl. And I bet girls would like it. Boys would like it also. It has suspense, a nice plot, drama, etc.... I also got the last book of harry potter. I was curious how it ended, and everyone seemed to be reading it. So I know IT appeals to most also. AGAIN, one of the main characters is a girl, as I know some consider that important. And it was written by a woman. Hey, there is always scifi!

Anyway, if they decide to prefer girls, even towards moving to very female oriented books and courses, OF COURSE the boys will do worse. The ironic part is I don't think it will make females do any better.

    I have known people who say that, and can tell you what they were like: pretty much uneducated, unrealistic, delusional, opinionated and you can add various other derogatory adjectives according to taste! :p :rolleyes:

    Funnily enough, I was just reading a discussion in a writers' forum, earlier today, about gender differences and genre differences in writing. Apparently there's an overwhelming preponderance of male SF/F writers? But there could also be women writing SF/F under male pen-names, which they hadn't thought about. :p

      You NEVER know! I have noticed a LOT of females that have shortened their names SO much, that one might assume they are male. And look at Carol Christine Hilaria Pounder! She is an actress in things like syfy's Warehouse 13. Don't look for her name on the credits though. She calls herself C.C.H. Pounder! or Genevieve Knight Hannelius? She is on Disney's Dog with a blog. AGAIN, known as G. Hannelius. It seems like her friends call her Gee! It is a shame. I think women are in so many places now that few are really sexist, and if the part calls for a female, a male probably couldn't play it. So for such things,I doubt their full name would cause problems. Though these two examples DO have LONG names, and maybe they just want it short and sweet.

      But with writing the problem isn't really a sexual one. It is simply that many females like some poetry and topics that males are just averse to. With movies, there is even a name for many of these types of shows, called chick flicks.

      Frankly, there IS a huge chasm of stories that would have wide appeal to females AND males.

    That is demented thinking, however it came about. Of course, it is failing miserably. Boys will be boys -- educators need to get used to it. Where are these educators coming from anyway? Is there a preponderance of androgynous individuals emerging out of teachers' college?

    It's amazing to me that women fought so hard for womens' rights, (and rightly so),
    but, it seems, now they're doing their damnedest to be like men.
    I watch Castle on TV and the precincts female Captain demands to be called sir.

    Anyway, as far as men being "defective women", I read a debate years ago about whether the penis was an over-developed clitoris or, the clitoris was an under-developed penis.

    I don't understand any of it. Men are men and women are women.
    There are innate differences and, personally, I like women to women, i.e. feminine.
    And virtually every woman I know like men to be masculine.

    There was a reason why men and women were seperated in the military.

    Let's see; You put 3,000 20 something men on a ship for months on end.
    And, somebody thought it was a good idea to put 20 or 30 20 something women on the ship with them.
    Then they punish them when sex, consentual or rape happens.
    People used to run their lives and set standards and rules based on common sense.

        It is good to advance women's rights. However, when an organization begins to rigidly adhere to dogmatic stances irrespective of contradictory scientific evidence, it becomes self-destructive. Women's Lib was established by well-off White women on both legitimate and questionable assertions. For this reason, their agenda is largely alien to most women as well as being largely out-of-date and irrelevant to newer generations of women. I'm all for women's rights being defended, but not all for dogmatic ideologies that meet contradiction with hostility.


        Research finding after research finding contradicts the theory that male and female behavior primarily stems from upbringing. Of course, this doesn't mean that opportunity should be denied anyone. All doors should be open to girls and women and every effort made to provide them with circumstances that allow them to reach their potential. However, to apply incorrect and disproven feminist stances to educational systems is certainly proving to be harmful to boys and in turn will be harmful to girls (as Steve pointed out).
