I have scanned this machine about 30 times in the last 2 days.

With several different apps - its nearly fixed - but I know it will konk out again soon so I am enjoying my bandwidth while I can.

And its 3:45 Am - naughty me. Should be asleep.

    Try a program called malwarebytes.
I don't have the URL for it but I was in the same position as you are now and couldn't use the web. It was some sort of browser hijacker and another nasty thing that would suck up my bandwidth. So yeah, google that program. Use the free version and do the quick scan. That was all I needed to catch the critters in my laptop.

Yeah I am nearly on top of it - another thing is to clean all the crap out of your temp files in wnnt and docs&settings - half of it is really malware.

It is still reinfecting but i understand how it operates a bit better.

All you can do is keep scanning in safe mode preferably with multiple up to date anti virus and anti spyware.

Maybe it is one of the nice viruses that are already loaded when your pc is booting?

I stopped having problems with my computer as soon as I turned off system restore. Been 5 years and I haven't needed it yet.
