Almost Immediately Following UCSB Massacre, Man Shot at Women Who Rejected His Advances (Video) | Atlas Left

It's not mentioned as much because the UCSB shootings have more impact, but really 2 shootings in one day for women rejecting men?

I can't stand that reasoning!

As long as people have the need to try to understand such things, the media will continue to cover these "stories" at length. The media coverage makes nut jobs feel important. Everybody wants to feel important. So the cycle continues.

As for the other story posted above - it has nothing in common with the killings. If a man shooting a 9mm at three people wanted to hit them, he would have.

Women need to have some sense and not go to strange men's homes at 2 am....seems pretty basic to me.

I try to see the big picture...I try to see both sides of an issue...

But I think that shooting at someone for not giving you sex, is in most cases....wrong.

I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but shooting at someone can escalate to something potentially dangerous. (I hope I'm not out of bounds here)

Of course, if the guy said "Baby, I wasn't actually shooting at you...just around you", then I can understand his actions.

Guns solve so many problems. We need more.

There would be no need for government assistance...if everyone was just packing a gun. Now everyone has a gun, and everyone has to do what anyone else wants them to do. All problems solved.

      You're welcome.

    Guns - never the solution.

However stiletto heels and cast iron frying pans? Now there is something you can do some creative thinking with - I can't tell you how many ways I can imagine using a stiletto heel as a weapon just for this particular crime of 'mashing'.

I know, I know somebody already actually murdered somebody with their stiletto heels - can't imagine that part - I just like to make A POINT, I don't need to be terminal about it.

Very tragic story and I don't mean to make 'light' of it - it is just so senseless and stupid - what a spoiled rotten brat - glad they took him out (or he took himself out not sure which).

In normal cases of an attack, anything can serve as a weapon. When someone has a gun, you better hope that you have one, too.

Men have been attacking and murdering women when they "disobey" since time began. The gun in this crime is extremely incidental and being used as a fear mongering tool. You don't see this kind of press when the guy attacking the woman uses a knife (frequent), a rope or cord, or beats her to death (most frequent).

Being beaten for not doing what I was told to is the reason I got martial arts training. Later, when I worked at the crisis center, we taught a lot about using anything handy in an emergency. Most guys don't go at women using guns. They are extraordinarily easy to put down if you are taught to be angry they would attack you instead of afraid.

I know dozens of stories from the center of women being attacked and killed - knew some personally, and hear of many more going "off mainstream" for info. A gun attack against a woman is usually an "if I can't have her, nobody can" situation in which the attacker is ready to off himself as well as her and any man in the picture.

For a time, I taught self-defense for women. By far the highest hurdle in teaching a woman to defend herself effectively was her natural propensity to be more civilized than men.

I got used to the incredulous looks when I began explaining how to use a car key to slash the face of an attacker, or how to gouge an eye with a thumb, or tear off a bottom lip - or other things - with teeth.

I believe most civilized people would have a problem defending themselves in a violent situation simply because they don't have the capacity to be ruthless enough to stop an attacker, even when their own life is in danger.

Right? It's the same if you give them a gun - a lot of people can't pull that trigger if their life depends on it so the perp just takes the gun away and kills the victim with their own defense weapon.

What I did as a self defense instructor was not try to teach them to be blackbelts - it was to try to get them into the right frame of head to be able to defend themselves. I also ran into a lot of "I can't do that. I would hurt him" - misplaced empathy syndrome is what we called it. When I'd start with a woman I would have her face me and hit her in the shoulders to push her backward. I expected confusion the first time or two I did that because they wouldn't know what I expected from them. By the third time, I expected them to either block me or even try to push back. I had women in there that I could push all the way across a room and when you got them to the wall they'd just slide down the wall and cry. Those I referred to psychiatrists. That was more than I had the empathy or training to deal with.

Predators can spot that kind of victim mentality without a hitch. If you can erase the fear and instill a sense of anger, just the look that someone will give a perp will sometimes set them back and they'll go elsewhere. There are nutcases like the one in the OP that are just too nuts to care, but the average perp isn't looking for a fight, they're looking for easy pickin's. They're like dogs that are fear biters - they don't see fear and they just go away.
