when i went to the statue of liberty in nyc, they were closed down to the public. I couldn't go in the head of the statue.

      I'm sorry to hear it.

I wish you would have had the honor of walking up the steps to the top - all 400 something steps.

I did that one once. Funny - I remember going up those steps more than I remember the darned view from the top.

Funny. If I came here from a foreign land looking for freedom, I probably would have gone up the statue. It was a favorite landmark, and For several weeks, I was at a hotel maybe only blocks away. I could see the statue from my room. The front desk even made a point to tell me I had the view. I looked at it, and walked closer to it, but never tried to go there. I think it was closed at the time though. Wikipedia says it was closed around that time.

I did the same with magic mountain in california. I loved going there. I moved only miles away, lived there for YEARS, and never went to magic mountain during that period!

I've been to the Magic Mountain in Florida - been up the Empire State - Liberty, and the Washington Monument. I usually do things like that when I'm in a local area. The one that I balked at was the Eiffel Tower. I stood under it and saw it sway in the wind. Would have blown chow on the way up - too open, too high. There's just some stuff that is all good and comfy from the ground, don't need to do the top.

My thought when I saw this topic was how does a helicopter get into restricted air space without an escort or being shot down?
