Warriors,

We work a lot. Sometimes too much.

And Many times we KILL our HEALTH.

Too much computer, too much screen, too much thinking...

We need a great life balance.

And HEALTH is more than important.

My main problem, i eat too much SUGAR. Probably, i might say, i am still a kid, probably but the reality is that i can have big health problems in the future if i DO NOT care about my health today.

What are your secrets, your tips for a perfect healthy LIFE?

LOVE

    AJ,

Not many people know this, but a few years ago I developed a serious case of both gastritis and erosive esophagitus. It was so bad that it began causing my heart to beat fast, which is known as a SVT episode.

I even quit drinking coffee and anything else with caffeine in it.

Fast forward to today and I have completely changed my views on both diet, nutrition, and exercise.

I invested in a Healthmaster blender (I own 2 of them) and I drink at least one large vegetable / fruit smoothie per day. There are plenty of great recipes online and I've gotten some really good ones from the Food Babe's blog.

I no longer drink soda, my alcohol intake has significantly decreased, I walk at least 5 miles per day, 5 to 6 days a week, and I make sure I get at least 7 to 8 hours a sleep a night. I seldom eat processed foods, eat very little meat (I get protein from beans, legumes, spirulina, raw nuts, etc.), and my doctor says I'm the healthiest 44 year old man he's ever seen. He says my liver is "spectacular" and wanted to know what my secret was.

I told him to invest in a Vitamix or a Healthmaster or a Ninja blender and drink 1 to 2 vegetable smoothies (all organic) a day and watch what he eats and he would be amazed at how he felt in a week.

I'm still dealing with the heart (SVT) issue, but even so, I haven't felt this good in years.

What? Tell me it's not true
Most people don't realize the effects that what you consume can have. Eating crap will make you feel like crap and cause all sorts of health problems.
My main problem, i eat too much SUGAR.
Craving certain things usually mean you're deficient in something.
When I get cravings for sugar, salt, etc. I look over this chart (see attachment) to see what's really going on.

I took one look at your chart and ruled it out for me. Eating fish when I want salty foods. Not in a million years!

I just use Himalayan Pink Salt instead.
I'm not a fish fan myself.

While never having much of a sweet tooth, I could live on potatoes, rice, bread and pasta - and I basically did. Throw in some OJ every day, which is no different than eating a few candy bars, except for a miniscule amount of nutrients and you have a diet from hell.

After I developed congestive heart failure, I lost 100 pounds, dropped my blood-glucose level from highs that oftentimes reached 320 to a 30 day average of 78 with an A1c of 5.2. My HDL and LDL are now in the 'excellent' range, my BP went from 170/120 to 110/70, PSA from 7 to 3, significant drop in uric acid which has eliminated crippling gout attacks.

OK, I still need to lose 40 pounds, I do shoot insulin 4 times per day and I'm still butt-ugly, but I do get to enjoy my half of an everything bagel with cream cheesed scallions (NOT scallion cream cheese) with my Hawaiian Kona every single morning and for dinner tonight I'm having white clam sauce with linguine (NOT linguini with white clam sauce - you see how that works? lol). Gotta love those fresh Jersey Cherrystones. Yum!!!

It is possible to have all the things that you enjoy in life if you learn moderation (a word alien to my vocabulary in most matters) and to offset your weaker moments with compensating stretches of being on your best behavior.

It's all about balance and learning that there is a significant difference between 'being alive' and 'living.' Being alive sucks if you ain't living!

My worst food addiction was potato chips. I ate a giant bag every day of my life. I promised myself I would not eat one for a year. In two weeks it will be two and a half years since one has passed my lips. I'll tell you how I did that. I taped a bag of chips to my fridge so that everyday I would be forced to confront the temptation, up close and personal. I would have to ask myself a few times each day, which was stronger, the temptation or my self-control. I win! lol

Enjoy your life but treat your body in a way that will help to prolong it. An added benefit will be the increased positive mental attitude that comes from being in control. If you stop for a minute and think about it very deeply, you will realize that the only thing that you have absolute control over in your entire life, is what you shove in your pie hole. You can't name something that you can totally control in any aspect of your life. Hell, you can't even really control when it's going to come out the other end. So - if there is only one thing that you get to control on a daily basis, why would you not want to maximize that ability to its fullest potential? I love being totally in contriol of my food intake. Now, even when I have something that is a little outside of my best choices, it was a controlled decision made freely without the influence of guilt, depression, agitation or any other reason we eat what we shouldn't. I ate it because I made a concious decision to do so, after evaluation all the ramifications, large and small. It's unfortunate that I have to go through the mental gymnastics over something as simple as a food choice, but that' s the punishment for decades of abusing my body and through it my mind and my soul.

And remember - death begins in the colon. It's a fact. lol

Oh, it's lunch time. Can you say Nova, cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, olives on a toasted bagel? I'll up my insulin 25% and enjoy the livin' hell out of it, without any remorse. My only regret is that it has taken me so long to figure out how to truly enjoy my life - and food - which is still a major focus of it.

            Cheers. - Frank

            P.S. Now THAT's livin'. lol

There was a day when Rod Cortez was synonymous with caffeine around here. It is amazing how we realize we're not really invincible as we age.

The best thing about the inconveniences of getting older is that we're still above ground. If only we were all as smart as we thought we were when we were younger. At least we're still around to appreciate the day that is before us.

Give up coffee? Never happen here. Coffee has 33 cancer defying elements - and the caffeine is great control for allergies and asthma. That said - I have negative blood and the acid doesn't effect me so hard as normal blood types. I can eat tomatoes and oranges all day without having problems.

Our whole society's health is going into the crapper. Organic food and an active lifestyle has kept me healthy. I stay as far away from any toxins as possible.

I think, for me, the one thing I watch that a lot of people don't think about is electromagnetic poisoning. It's everywhere. I take my shoes off and walk barefoot every day to ground the electromagnetism correctly.

You have you're own natural pharmacy... do some research folks.

I'm sorry - but I don't agree with this at all. Our bodies make urine to get rid of toxins - it's our "flushing" system. There's not one way I'd ever try to recycle it back through my body unless I were dying of thirst and had no other form of liquid to save myself with. Our body has a host of it's own pharmacology in feces, too - but I'm sure not gonna eat it.

However - if I ever get stung by a jellyfish, I would definitely use urine to stop the stinging until I could get somewhere for further first aid

I also do not agree with any form of cancer or other disease treatment that knocks the hair off your head. Exactly where do people get the idea that if it knocks your hair out it's going to be good for you? I prefer my own methods on this one -- that make your hair strong, thick, and lush while healing the body.

Hi Sal, that's ok to disagree and when I first heard of this I felt exactly the same... Yuk!
But before you totally dismiss it there is a couple of things to consider, firstly when all of us were conceived ask yourself what we lived on during those first 9 months, and what developed your bones and organs, we were basically living off you're mothers and you're own urine. The fountain of youth, no less. The more I looked into this the more sense it made.

Urine is not a waste product it is an excess of blood plasma that has been produced from the body and then filtered by the liver and kidney's and is the purest form of distilled water that you could ever get. All of the waste products go the other way... so please don't eat you're feces, the only time I eat crap is when I visit fast food chains, which nowadays is never.

I totally understand people who think this idea is madness, and it is definately not for everyone. But I have been doing this now for about 3 months along with drinking about 6 - 8 pints of distilled water per day and I have to say that I am feeling unbelievably fit and healthy, and more intune with life than I have for years. I have far more energy, my skin is unbelievably soft, like a baby's bum! I am finding the whole experience incredible.
By the way at first my pee tasted very salty and was highly coloured, now it tastes like coconut water and is hardly coloured at all.

I am definately not recommending this for everyone, for instance if you are taking pharmaceutical drugs or even recreational drugs I would not do this. I don't, and intend to keep it that way. One thing I would recommend to everyone however is to drink proper distilled water, I am not sure of the quality of water in the US but in the UK it is filthy and full of toxins and chemical additives, this is the video which woke me up big time and I will not be drinking tap water again. (I have no affiliation to this product).

Yeah, giving up coffee was hard, but now I'm used to it. If I drink coffee it's a quick one-way trip to the emergency room. It causes horrible pain in my digestive tract if I drink it. And it might also set off my SVT which is terribly uncomfortable.

My gastro doctor thinks I might be able to drink it again in a few years, but my esophagus and stomach lining need to heal up.

I hear you on the toxins, they are everywhere.

That's cute, they'd tell you anything to make you buy more coffee. But how about the fact that coffee makes you lose B17 vitamin, which can prevent cancer?
Caffeine can cause or worsen cellular edema.

cellular edema - definition of cellular edema in the Medical dictionary - by the Free Online Medical Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

That's great, but why wouldn't you use the same logic and avoid treating/preventing cancer with a substance that may cause a lot of other problems?
First off - I said caffeine was good for asthma and allergy - while it has some great phytonutrients in it, I wouldn't call coffee my cancer "cure". I've killed cancer - a few times. I don't talk about it at all other than I have an ebook about saving my little rescue dog who was at the point of the vet wanting to put him down. I know how to do that. Coffee is for a whole other purpose. And I'll admit - it's a better excuse than my other - which is that I love the stuff.

I have, however, discontinued drinking so much of it. A couple of cups in the morning - one cup of tea at night. The rest of the time it's water, organic juice, organic milk.

I'm not one of those people that believes we have to be 100%. Different elements sometimes collide even naturally, so even 100% all wholesome, healthy foods are going to clash with something. The idea we have to go for is balance. I probably eat less sugar than 99.9% of the population. That's a big one -don't go near fluoridated water, use no toxins cleaning or in self-care, etc. I live in small towns with non-flluoride water systems, and am in nature emersion with frequency.

So - as far as not perfect, I'm not. I'm healthier by a long shot than most people my age. When you are my age if you can say that - then you can criticize my methods.

About a year ago, 60 Minutes had a segment about the latest studies about sugar. They performed scans of the brain when someone snorted cocaine and someone who drank a can of soda (which is almost pure sugar in the form of modified corn syrup).

The brain scans were almost identical. The rush of dopamine when a person drinks soda (or has a lot of sugar) is what gets people hooked on sweets.

I have a friend who drinks 4 to 5 Diet Cokes everyday. Aside from the massive amounts of sugar he's drinking, diet Coke kills a lot of good bacteria in your gut, which has a direct impact on your health and immune system.

Your body needs some amounts of sugar to function, especially your brain and other organs, but it was not designed to take in the amount of sugar that most people take in today.

I get my simple sugars from fruits and my complex carbs from brown rice.

        Yep, totally agree!

If l ever got anything like that l may visit a doctor, then go online and research it to death, just to make sure that there isn't anything else l could do, that didn't involve such drastic action!

That is why in Australia more people with Autistic children are allowing them to swim with Dolphins.

Apparently it has dramatic positive results, and you don't have to mortgage the house for ongoing treatments!

Hmmm, yes, l do go for the chocolate cake, when l am feeling down!

But apart from half a glass of coke, almost every day, the rest of the time, l am drinking tea, or water, (not the s*** out of the tap, but filtered).

Drinking water all day, and a bowl, (didn't do it that time Claude) of fruit, helps a lot!
