LOL - the sign on the right hand building is in English. That's not that unusual -especially when the product displayed is an American product, but it makes ya wonder....

If they can adopt our language, products, and companies......maybe they should check out something we call power stations.

Most educated people speak english, such as it is. From what I understand, nearly everyone speaks at least 1 of those languages, even though they have like 2-3 dozen native languages.

As for the phone system? What do you expect, with ALL the people, quick buildup, etc... Sometimes that kind of action creates a BIG mess!

One more thing. Hindi is closely related to sanscrit. The spelling is nearly identical, and many words are the same. Sanscrit is the original language of the HINDU texts. HINDU is still a major religion in india tat was once often known as hindustan, and the indians as hindustani.

        Spot on!!

Someone asked me in Tanzania how we manage to communicate with so many languages available to each one to which I said all it takes is just one language to communicate. We are happy that we are called as a subcontinent
but the rest of the things such as this one deserves lots to be done.

Who knows, we may need to copy America

I was just thinking the same thing - not only about the wiring, but about the buildings themselves. They are in major earthquake territory and those buildings don't look like they can withstand a strong wind.

In the US, most of the phone lines were put in BEFORE the buildings, or even the city. Many lines go underground, and they may rip up the streets to retrofit.

India used to be a LOT poorer and, apparently, in many areas is. Like I said, that all leads to a big mess. The QUICKEST way is with poles, and stringing lines to each point of demarcation or even each phone. If they did that, it would look like the picture depicts.

In the US, most property starts with a provided POD, and wires go from that, UNDERGROUND to a main panel that eventually goes to a common area and runs up the pole to connections running through the country. That way, you have the low cost of the phone poles, and modest areas can appear to have NO wires, because everything is hidden.

ALSO, wires on poles may be brought down by accidents, earthquakes, etc... Underground wires probably won't. Underground wires CAN be cut by digging, etc... but it is actually illegal to dig in an unapproved area without arranging it with the city. They come out and tell you where to dig. If you dig where they say you can't, you can have fines, and liability. Those could be very high, since TV, electricity, phones, water, sewage, and gas are currently mostly underground. All that is under the US consititution, as it is considered "eminent domain".
