"You don't know if someone has something in their pants," she said.

Dress code for a football game. I can see the uniform code for classes.

Freeze! <queereye>Those shoes sipmly do not go with that belt! Oh my God who let you out of the house dressed like a hobo?</queereye> Honestly, are the police really needed to enforce a dress code? If you have students that are likely to cause a fuss requiring that level of force then maybe exuplsion is the better choice of handling this disruption.

Schools have dress codes? We got that abolished back when I was in 8th grade via walk outs. Guess individualism is illegal now.

I don't have a problem with the dress code in that article, seems fair to me.

It is less about having a dress code than it is about having a list of dress DON'Ts. Most schools anymore prohibit students from wearing revealing clothing or clothes that are closely tied to a gang or gangster life style. I don't see this as a ban on individualism, rather guidance on what is and isn't acceptable in a school. it has been shown that banning gang clothes has reduced the number of violent conflicts in school, and it just makes sense that you would want to have girls dress in something a little less tantalizing when you throw them into a school full of teenage boys.

This is not "individuality" - it's conforming to fads. There's nothing individual about girls wanting to expose as much skin as possible or boys wanting to look like gangstas.

Schools here do not allow female students to wear midriff baring clothes, very low cut tops, hip hugger jeans with thongs showing, extremely short skirts.

Male students may not have their underwear (often briefs, not boxers) showing above dropped down pants, may not wear oversized clothing or gang related symbols/styles.

For both sexes, t-shirts with beer ads, drug ads, curse words or suggestive phrases are banned.

Before the dress code was begun a few years ago, many of these kids even at middle school levels dressed like wannabe hookers and gangstas. If parents don't have common sense and control - maybe schools have to do it.
