Help With American Terminology Please?

If someone is applying for a job and put my name on their resume as someone who can speak about their work history and ability, I am a referee and give them a reference.

Is the terminology for such things the same in the US?

Thanks

You'd definitely be giving them a reference -- but I haven't heard the referee being referred to by that name. Usually the word "reference" is used for both the referee and the reference.

About the only common use of "referee" in the U.S. is for the officials who enforce the rules during basketball and (American) football games.

Ken beat me to it, but he is right. To the best of my knowledge, it is like that throughout all the US. You got the term resume right though! Is that the same term used in australia? In Europe they have something that is generally longer and more complete called the curriculum vitae, or CV for short.

Yep, we use resume here, but when I finished Uni back in the early 90's, CV was also used. It seems to have gone by the wayside now and you don't hear it much.
